| Today, a client offered me a deal to do five to ten 3 minute VOs every week for the next year. It is narration over video clips for a website. I usually do not do these types of gigs but this fell in my lap. How would you go about pricing this? I usually only do radio and tv stuff for them. Its perfectly within my skill set so I am not worried about that....just the pricing. My gut is telling me to keep it somewhat low priced because of the repeat nature of this. The radio and tv stuff I do for them pays very well. |

| Hey Victor - congrats on the recurring gig! NICE! I'm just spit-ballin' here, but I'd take your :60 sec rate and give them a 25% (or so) discount for volume. Keeping in mind my #1 overall rate guideline: "what the market will bear" |

Victor:
I'm with you on this one. That kind of repeat business deserves a volume discount. I'm thinking $25 a pop to start.
Over a year, that'll buy some goodies.
(And take you right out of JS Gilbert's sights)
Congrats,

| Victor - don't undercut yourself too much. I know the feeling of doing the math and coming up with an annual number that makes your butt-cheeks clinch, and you think "they'll never go for it" - guess what - they probably will. They obviously like your voice - they like working with you and there is something to say for continuity in marketing. I'm not saying that you should rape them, but they already value your services, so don't let that big monthly/yearly number scare you off. |

SWEET!!! I just got off the phone and they agreed to $100 a pop. I appreciate the advise guys. In February, I start that other huge contract doing promos on a major cable network. If I get into a jam time-wise, I will farm some of this newer stuff out to you guys if you're interested. I'll keep ya posted. Thanx. |

| Congrats, my dear! I just saw this for the first time and would have recommended quoting $100, so I'm thrilled for you! |

| Woo-Hoo Victor! $300 - $1000 bucks a week doesn't suck! I'm glad to see you didn't undersell your talents. In this "eat what you kill" world, it's nice to know breakfast is on the table - now all you have to do is find lunch! |

Thanx guys for your help. Amy, I already know I may need a female for this from time to time. I will keep you in mind when its time.
2007 is shaping up to be a major growth for my business. I guess burning up the keypad on my phone for hours and hours at a time has begun to pay off...lol...even thru repeated ego bruising rejections.
Daily breakdown of my VO business time:
20% actually doing VO work and editing.
80% trying to get work.
Thank you Lord. |

Congrats! Happy to be hanging out on the farm-- thanks!
2007 looks like it's going to be my big breakthrough year as well, so I share in your excitement!
I'm on a hot streak-- I have booked at least one paying gig every day since 12/28/06! That might not sound like much to some, but it's up from about a 2 per week average in 2006, so I'm a happy little camper indeed!
Here's to 2007, the year we all get paid what we're worth doing what we love! |

Victor:
OK,OK...so I'd make a real lousy agent.
My suggestion would have cost you - what? - 50 g's a year?
What's that between friends, huh?
You should punish me with some real, real tough farm work...lots of it.
(Way to go! Congrats!)
