Here is an interesting program which reports the latency in your Windows computer (excessive latency can result in audio dropouts):

Thanks Chris. This tool worked well: according to it my laptop is in fine shape, but it showed substantial spikes when I engaged certain programs that I normal have disabled...now I just need to get a better sounding interface for it rather than the Presonus (don't get me started about that company) Firebox. E-MU 1616(M) perhaps?

Lance -

Are you running XP or Vista? It's starting to look as if Vista has some serious DPC latency issues. Do you have wireless networking enabled? If not, try activating it and watch those red bars come through.

Service pack 3 for XP and SP1 for Vista will be here any day now Very Happy

I'm XP thankfully. Yeah, turning on wireless = wall of red.
Turning on firewall = small wall of red

I only have the basics running on my laptop otherwise my Firebox sounds like what it is: a piece of junk.
