Leif:

I had a feeling you were talking about the total mix on a commercial.
Your EQ curve probably has some merit on a final mix.

Another nice way to cut through is a 2-3db cut around 250. A lot
of country songs are mastered that way for vocal clarity.
I'm not a big country fan, but they are some of the best produced
songs around today.

Leif

Don't feel bad. We don't usually bite!

By the way, Bill's tip of a gentle cut at around 250Hz is a good one for a final mix. (My preference is around 265 - but hey!) It 's a good EQ tip for taking the tubbiness out of a spot.

Colin

Leif, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and it's always good for everyone to talk and think about these things even if we don't agree. Your points got me to think about my EQ on mixes for a few things, and I'm glad for it.

That's absolutely right, and sometimes everybody here needs a little kick to re-think common subjects or reflect about old habits. Your message made me re-listen to my recordings and change some settings of my DAW (to the good)!

So, welcome to the board and hopefully we will read you soon again,

Thomas

HI AGAIN,

I've felt bad all day, being responsible for a mistake and a badly written message. Where is the delete button? Will my grandchildren read this?

Shocked

kidding...

Anyway, thank you sports!

If you want to sound loud, just yell. Billy Mays has it down to a science. Wink

If you use a "limiter", what do you normally set the "threshold" and "release"? My version of Cubase has a "auto" setting for the "release". Thanks...B

This thread is incredibly interesting. I rarely if ever use EQ when completing voice projects for my clients requiring raw voice. I allow them and their engineers to do what they feel is best for the application.

I do use EQ and compression if I am in the producer's chair however. I'd love to hear from anyone else using ProTools LE 7.0 on their settings. I just listen in preview and process when I hear the "sound". Kinda non-techie..... so I'd like to learn more. Feel free to PM me.
