No, no, no, no, NO, Daniel!!!
By sounding non-radio you will sound REAL!
NO ONE walks up to their neighbor in real life and says (insert local FM morning show news anchor radio voice here): "Hi, Bob! Did you realize that this week you can save 50 cents per pound on boneless pork tenderloins at your local Publix supermarket?!"
No, you'd walk up to Bob and say "Yo, Bob! How ya been?" and you'd start talking. Like real people do.
One reason so many professional actors get hired to voice spots sure isn't because they sound like amateurs! And even more so, it's not because they sound like they should be on the radio. It's because they can sound sincere, real, believable.
In my mind, most radio voices really ARE voice-over amateurs! And I can say that because I were (are?) one!

i'm going to talk to the mic like it's my neighbor, starting today. i'll post updates on this thread for everyone's review to tell me how i'm coming along.
this is so much more helpful than everyone telling me i sound great.
another question..i'm buying a home studio equipment, so i can take my time with auditions from now on, instead of sneaking it in my radio studios...
can you supply me with reccommended following:
mic
board
computer memory and sound card
and a stupid idiots guide to setting it up??
i'm purchasing all of this on friday..
you have all been so helpful so far, i wouldn't trust anyone else to help me on this one...

Daniel, it's impossible to say without knowing what the directions were. You might do better posting something like this over in the "Leads and Reads" section and letting us know what directions (if any) the client gave.
Until I know what they were looking for I'd have to hold off on critiquing it.

That's right. Once you can fake that, you've got it made.
