Hello from Anoka MN. I am a new talent, and I wanted to know what the least costly way to respond to voiceover seekers would be. I plan on purchasing equipment, and was going to go with the a sound card and microphone, and use my computer to make a demo out of my home. Is this a good idea? What is the difference between this and using an MP3 or WAV format? Thanks.

Hello Donald,

Most of the voice talents, now days, have their own recording set up at home. A recording set up can be extremely simple or really complex (depending on your needs or expectations).
What we can recommend is to check out these forums, all of them have really good tips regarding recording equipment and set up:

Donald:
Welcome to the bazaar.
Fred's right: all the info you need is here for the taking.
I'll leave the techno-stuff for you to glean, but will suggest you re-think your V123 site, since it virtually screams "DON"T KNOW WHAT I"M DOING".
Training, for example, should not say - None. I suggest at least On The Job, or self-taught.
It may all also read better in the third-person, ie ..."A deep voice, capable of .........". You gotta take out the "fairly" from deep voice, incidentally, since it sounds uncertain and tentative. Also remove reference to your "only" experience, and put a positive spin on the radio work, however sparse.
It's not misrepresentation to state experience as "voiceovers, sweeps (or whatever) for (radio station whatever)"
And for the love of Reverb, man, remove the plea that you "just need a chance to show your talent." This ain't Oz, and the clients far from Wizards.
This isn't meant to be negative, Don. You're more than welcome here.
But if you don't attack it with pride and a generous dollop of serious professionalism, you're stuck on Mute.
Go get 'Em,
Robert Jadah

Before you do one voice over, read this book - "The Art of Voice Acting" by James A. Alburger

Welcome
