How many demos get rated?

Greetings!

After a month with 123, I find over half of the opened submissions have not been rated. (4 of 7)

Is this typical?

It all depends... I've been with V123 since May and Smartcast started in July. On average, 50% of my auditions get rated. However; in November '07, almost all of them were rated (mostly 4's and a 5 that month) Then in January, only two auditions were rated. (Also 4's) I think it depends on the seeker.

I'm far more concerned that they get listened to than that they get rated. And a disturbing number of demos never even get opened.

I'm afraid not enough. Ive been here 3 years now and I'd say about 35% get rated. Mind you had a couple of five stars recently when the average was 3 and still didn't get a tickle

I think it is even more frustrating when they do give you a 5* rating or one well above average and you don't hear anything. I'd rather not get any rating at all and get a job than have a great rating and nothing!

This isn't just me being bitter lol, but you do wonder if they
end up casting anyone. I'd be very interested if Voice123 could provide a statistic on that.

Annnd of course making it more frustrating....you never know if your auditions "really" get heard because the act of deleting an audition also results in the hope-inspiring "Audition/Proposal Opened" email.

In most liklihoods, a seeker probably got bored after listening to the first 20 submissions, settled on three to present to the client, then just deleted the remaining 180.

As many others have said, V123 should require seekers to limit the number of initial auditions.

I mean c'mon, show me the seeker who listens to all 200 auditions and I'll show you a seeker with way too much time on their hands.

I dunno... I audition all day long for agents, etc. and don't hear anything unless I win the gig. I'm ok with that, and I'm perfectly find with getting a good rating, but not getting the job. To me, it's better than no rating at all... it helps my stats (supposedly), and, it's likely it will land me work from that seeker in the future.

Chris: I have found far less than a 4th of the seekers rate the demos. That can be a little frustrating, but what is more frustrating....when the seekers list TBD as the price quote. And I seriously question if the seekers actually sample 50 + demos. I relate it to Goggle. How many pages are you going to view before you say enough is enough? I guess the best you can do is record a demo (if you have the time and if for nothing else...practice your craft) and throw caution to the wind.

What I find interresting is getting a 2 but finding out that the average rating was a 2.6.....not that I live with the adage misery loves company...... I am a newbie, and I have gotten ratings from 4.6 and recently I got a couple of 2's (I'm hoping it's because my demos were too low volume...I switched my equipment and recording program and thought the volume was fine....)

I just keep on using when the rating come as a critique tool, and if I don't get rated then either it was deleted or wasn't worthy of being rated.....for that seeker, the next seeker may think I'm just right........

Walk the walk, "talk" the talk.....it all depends on who's watching and listening.....

I bet this doesn't make any sense......

Compared to my experience that's a lot. Maybe 25% of the demos I submit are rated. The record is pretty good on rated demos - generally 4 or 5 and above the average, but not many are rated.

It doesn't much matter as the best rating is a job and a check.

I've had a number of people contact me telling me what a great demo it was, ask to recommend me to friends for other jobs, then not give me the job.

I echo the person here who said, "Do your audition and then forget about it." When you have spent your life as an actor, like me, and a singer too, long before the internet even existed, "live" auditions were what we did. People behind a table, smoking cigars, unseen faces in a dark room, we performed and some guy said, "ok sweetheart. That's enough. Thank you." And off we went back into the street...It's apples and oranges. You can be the best voice actor on the planet but not what I want or the client wants. Just read it as you think it should be for best results and then forget it. Also, on this site and others for vo folks today, we have no producer to tell us what to do, how to do it again, what they want "on that last line," the stuff we get in live auditions. And as I've said here before...if all you are doing is this site and others like it, GET AGENTS and start doing advertising agency auditions and auditions for your agents and other things. And sell your own jobs too! It's a huge world and don't get the idea this is all there is to a voice career! This is only a tiny part of our business, at least, when you are a professional working actor. Ratings? Ask yourself who is rating you! Why do you care? Maybe they know NOTHING about voiceovers or acting at all! One time, I lost a job because the client said I sounded just like his EX-WIFE! true story!! Hope this helps. God bless.
