do what i do... keep the mic on so the "on air" or "recording" light stays lit. sale people know when the light is on, NOT to enter my studio.

even though they can see me through the window, i've got my headphones on and the mic light is on. so i must be recording.

works like a charm...

jim

and BTW congrats on your new gig!! spot sounded great.

You work at a station where the sales people have been told something and actually understand and remember it and follow the rules? Wow! I didn't think places like that existed in the real world. Confused

LOL!!! well most times they do. but you know how sales people are. sometimes they conveniently forget policy when it happens to apply to them.

and people thought the hatfield/mccoy fued was bad... sit in on a battle between a production director and account executive one day and watch the fur fly.

Jim,
Are you still working out of the same studios we used to share years ago? If so....Lee, I can honestly say that the sales ppl were trained to not enter when the "RECORD" light was on. Not even the Sales Manager entered the production room when the "RECORD" light was on. That was 18 yrs ago, so I hope the new sales team has been properly trained over the yrs.

At my current FT station, the red light that flashes "RECORDING" or "ON AIR" doesn't mean didly with the sales staff. It's not until the owner/GM gets in their face when it stops for a while. Red lights, pad locks dont mean a thing to them. All they know is their sale and in order to make it final, they have to interrupt you right away. No wonder that 24 yr old kid burnt up his radio station. (See BURNING BRIDGES post under General Chit Chat)

Ally,

Yep we're still in the same facilities (and still using mostly the same equipment too!). And they're not only trained to stay out of the prod studio when the light is on, they're not allowed in the air studio AT ALL.

Of course they yell when walking past the door to both studios, even when the lights are on (studios aren't completely sound proof). oh well, small steps i guess.
