New to the forums, been lurking on the main site for a few months. I've been in and out of radio for the last 13 years, and am just now getting a home studio put together to work in vo.
So far, I've been pretty successfull at getting by on the cheap. I've purchased an AKG Precision 200 and an Maudio usbmobile interface. I'm playing with Audition 2.0 but have old standby copies of Soundforge and Cool Edit Pro 2 if I don't like the new interface.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone. |

Hey Steve:
Welcome aboard the Good Ship Walla (which is how I started in this business; doing background loops for movies. Voicers do the restaurant or crowd chatter and it's called Walla because that's what the loopers did in the old days: repeat Walla Walla Walla, since it gave the proper visual impression of actual conversation.)
Enjoyed your burst of posts, and am wondering only why no demo is included at your site.
You're not going Mysterious Silent Stranger as a niche, are you?
Voice On!

Honestly, I'm struggling with a decent demo.
I have this nasty perfectionist streak and I just haven't gotten my work to the place that I think it's postable.
I'm going to take some time tonight and see if I can polish something up a bit just to get it posted.
In the meantime, I'm enjoying being the 'strong silent type'. |

| I threw up *pun intended* a demo on my 123 page. Be happy to get some feedback. |

Hello Steve, welcome to the forums.
This sponsored site by Voice123 was conceived with the idea of having a place in which to communicate in a more active way, where you can participate in open discussions, submit your inquiries, ask technical questions, suggest new ideas, get critique and feedback on your profile and demos, look for help and help others, find new information related to the industry or just share your mind.
We really want voice over Savvy Forum to be a gathering tool for the voice over community and a great resource for you.
We are hoping to see you around. |

| You are very kind Anastasia. Thanks for the compliment. I'll try to take your advice and relax a bit. Like I said, I threw that together pretty quickly, and it probably shows through. Appreciate the feedback! |

| Hello! I have been a member since 2005, but have not had the privilege of communicating with other talents. What a wonderful venue! I love the idea of the "download of the day," where we share our latest demos and comment on each others'. I've been in the biz for more than 25 years, but have only gotten local and regional work. With Voice123, I now have regular clients in Canada, Michigan, Tampa and Okinawa! How cool is that? This web site has boosted my bottom line three-fold since I started. You can't argue with that! Thanks, Voice123. You rock! |

*applause!!!*
Thanks for posting Robin! It's always easier to say something to boost morale than it is to say sumt'ng stoop-ed. And since you're in such a "posty" mood howz about laying some of your trade secrets on us-AYE?
I'm not kidding!

Hi Anastasia,
Thanks for commenting on my post! When I started on Voice123, I answered everything that came into my Inbox. But as time went on, I kept track of the types of jobs I was actually getting hired to do. I just feel that now I know what I do best (long-format straight narration and "caring" spots - health care, "mom" voices), so now I just go after those jobs. My advice is: Do what you do best and go after those jobs. I know for SURE I am NOT going to be hired to be Izzy the Daschund (one of today's posts), so I hit "delete!" I am also wary of anyone who says they have to have it in a hurry or any posting with multiple misspellings. I usually don't go for those leads because they are too disorganized or they will be in too much of a hurry to pay you. It happens. Keep at it, girlfriend. I appreciate the opportunity to audition every day for multiple jobs--it really keeps you focused and MAKES you be critical of your own voice. That way, we can only get better, right??? |
