Randall,
I took the liberty of listening to your character demos posted at your profile and you are certainly a talented man. But right now, I think that's your strength. If you want to advance your VO skills towards the hospital read delivery, I think you need some more practice. You sound like you're reading and not really feeling the copy.
On the bright side most doctors sound robotic and lack people skills. If that's the case, you sound much better than most doctors.
Because this is the world of VO and competition is the name of the game, I think you should work on sounding more natural. The potential is there, but I don't think you're hitting the mark right now.
As a small suggestion; before you read copy for auditioning, what are your drinking? When I drink dairy products, I sound phlemy and I heard a hint of that in your audition towards the end. Try drinking warm clear fluids. Herbal teas are wonderful.
Good Luck and Let us know how this turned out.
~Allison~

thank you for your response & for listening to my demos. i do have a problem with being a little phlemy, i did have some soda before hand and i ate a burger right before (hoping it would plow the phlem down) sounds gross i know but i still had the problem.
are there any good drinks to drink before-hand so that i can fix it?
i guess my recordings were "technically" good but i shall try to "feel" the script more.
once again thank you for your reply.

Randall,
One of the first things I learned NOT to drink were dairy products. Before any reads or auditions, avoid dairy at all costs. Also, avoid soda, cold beverages, and any foods that may encourage acid reflux. Room temp water is ok.
We all have to eat...so If you have to chow down before you do a read, try dark leafy greens. Romaine lettuce, Kale, raw spinache, cucumbers and the like are acid reducers. As a suffer of acid reflux, I can tell you that those foods do wonders. There was a time I didn't need Prilosec for 6 months! Once I snuck in a piece of pizza here and there, the acid kicked back in and it effected my delivery.
As for liquids to drink; stick to clear, warm fluids. Warm water with a sprinkle of lemon, herb tea, or decaf black coffee are some of my personal fav's. I drink those before and during the time I'm on the air. I've been doing that for 20 years. Works every time!
Glad I could offer some assistance.
TTYL Allison

| thank you once again! i shall try those (gotta find some acid reducing foods) and when i wake up i'm just gonna try a read where all i am concentrating on is the "feeling" of the read, just to see where i truly am on that aspect of the performance. i shall post it here for feedback.

I'm so glad I saw this. My wife has suffered from GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) for years and I don't know if she was aware of this or not. I forwarded this info to her, Ali.
