Paul:
I image mostly news-talk and AC stations and I’m of the “less is more” camp. I think that the production should enhance your message – not obliterate the message.
That said, maybe it’s just my old ears but in this demo it is difficult for me to tell where one piece ends and the other begins. It sounds like one very long imaging piece. And that may be due to everything sounding the same (one could argue that the “sameness” is the idea of imaging).
You have some obvious productions skills – but I’d like to hear more of you.
And unless you intend to niche yourself as a rock guy (and many imaging talents have successfully done that) you might want to think about creating and displaying some other format material.
If there’s a field that’s more overpopulated than voiceovers right now – it’s imaging. Make your stuff different (or better than what’s already being produced) and you’ll stand out – exactly what you need in the overcrowded field of radio imaging.
My 2 cents...
Tom

WHOA! Nice prod work but waaaaay over the top for showcasing any kind of voice work. Shorten it up for a brief imaging piece but work on producing some lengthier "reads" and repost.
Cheers,
Cameron

Paul,
No question there's good production work here, but honestly to my old ears, all the imaging sounds the same to me any more. If this is purely a production/imaging demo, then it can certainly compete with the thousands of others out there, although how would a client choose if they all sound so similar? If it's to showcase your voice at all, it fails there since there's so little of your voice and as others have already said here, it's overwhelmed by buzzers, whistles, fx, sweepers, lasers, EQ and what not.
As Tom said, I suspect the field of radio imaging is overcrowded. The way to pick up what slim work there is out there is to be different.
This demo is very good.
But it's not different.
