ISDN = It STILL Does Nothing. Wink

Seriously, one of the ways you can cut a few bucks off your bill per month, is to order your ISDN WITHOUT the "D" channel. Unless you'
re using it for Data control, it's virtually useless. The other reason, is also that's what the tax people make you pay additional taxes on.

Had ISDN several years ago ( before DSL hit the area) and personally, even though I understand your reasonings and purposes for using it, I'd have to think long and hard before considering going that route again.

Eric

have a look at this thread:
http://voiceoversavvy.com/ftopic4940.html
When it comes to transmitting voice, ISDN and DSL are two completely different things - you can't compare them, other technique, other aim, other setup. ISDN here is used for audio-link transmission, DSL is internet connection.

In this sense, I would bet 10 cases of "Moosehead": you did NOT have ISDN, right?

Thomas

P.S. Robert, don't worry, we gonna share the Mooseheads Wink

I used to have ISDN back in the 90's as an Internet connection. It can be used for data like DSL albeit slowly by today's standards (128k.) Instead of an audio codec, you can use an ISDN router to get network connectivity instead of audio. This setup usually provides the option of using the line as two "POTS" lines as well. (Plain Old Telephone Service.) Each conventional line taking half the badwidth (64k) when in use. Today in rare cicumstances such as extremely rural areas, ISDN is still used this way.

For purposes of VO, the bandwidth is converted to high quality audio via a "codec" such as a Telos Zephyr.

So... you CAN use ISDN for data like DSL, but there is no way I know of to use DSL for pure high quality audio except with some sort of PC based audio codec. Something like the ProTools "Source Connect."

Please note: As of today 09 March 2008, and almost four years after their introduction into the arena of point-to-point high quality communication, Source Connect has a total of 1456 users. More than half of which have never made a thin dime with this product.

Source Connect is a good viable product, but before you spend the money, do your homework. Determine your NEED and ROI (Return On Investment) potential. If you do not have a need or if no one you are looking to work with is using the product (Source Connect) then do not buy it --- yet. The same logic applies to ISDN codecs.

Good luck on your choices Robert.

Robert,

since I haven't heard anything from Eric so far, I expect his 10 x 6-packs Mooshead to arrive here very soon... could you please tell me where to send your 30 bottles to?

Thomas Wink
