Box Sets Rule... I'm looking for, "The Office" and "House MD" right now on amazon.

Has anyone seen, "The Fountain"? It's a Darren Arnofsky thing with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. I just got it from my local DVD vending machine and it looks pretty cool.

Cheers,
-J

oh, "Dead Like Me" is great! I love quirky stuff like that. "Pushing Daisies" is another one I dig, and "Wonderfalls". On another tangent, "Mythbusters" is also out on DVD and is always entertaining!

This is my kind of thread! Bring your date to "Juno" and rent "Once" as these are two of the coolest and sweetest movies out there. While you're at it, enjoy the fabulous music in both films. I agree that "No Country" is a very cool film and while I really liked it, my husband loved it. "30 Rock" is my choice for TV. One show and I was hooked.

If you like older films, check out Gregory Peck (and Charlton Heston, Burl Ives - many more) in "The Big Country." Awesome movie. My boys like the old westerns because of well, the guns. But this movie has lessons on character. It has become one of my favorite movies of all time.

And of course, one can't go wrong with "Gunga Din."

Scott mentioned it briefly, but "Crash" is one of those movies that left me with my jar down. Terrific movie!

All in all, wife and I love those unpredictable spooky movies. "Se7en" is another fave, and of course, "The Sixth Sense" is a classic by those terms. But one I still remember as a true blow-away for us both was the Nicole Kidman flick "The Others". Wow! Didn't see that one coming! Another fave is "Memento".

As for TV-shows, we have been collecting all currently available seasons of "The Shield". We love it!

Here's a recommendation of one of those almost never-heard of movies: 1993's "Flesh and Bone" with James Caan, Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan, Gwyneth Paltrow (first thing I ever saw her in). A real thriller and probably about the best I've EVER seen Meg Ryan in terms of an actress. Matter of fact, I just ordered a used copy from Peerflix as I was typing this.

Memento is a great, must-see movie. Doesn't get enough attention.
Love the Shield too! Vic rules. Can't wait for the new season. Same with Rescue Me.

As far as movies go, "The Ultimate Gift" on DVD is one of my wife's favorites. Great story about what really matters.

We've always been fans of "Les Miserables" (the one with Liam Neeson, not the musical). Excellent performances by Liam and Geoffrey Rush!

I somewhat enjoyed "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". Then I watched the bonus features about HOW they made it and was totally blown away!

Sports stories... "Remeber The Titans", "The Rookie" and (the faith based) "Facing The Giants".

If you're in the mood for a "bonnet" flick... "Sense & Sensibility" (with Emma Thompson), and/or "Emma" (with Gwyneth Paltrow).

I thought "Stranger Than Fiction" was incredibly interesting, well cast and well acted. Kudos to Will Smith in "Pursuit of Happyness".

Anthony... I'm with you on "Dreamgirls".

Family flicks... we all really got a kick out of "Enchanted" . "Extreme Days" is kinda fun. "Night At The Museum". Anything done by Pixar. I've always enjoyed "Homeward Bound"... and if I never see another second of any "High School Musical" movie it'll be too soon. (I've got young daughters in the house and they've got it all memorized!)

TV... "Lost", "The Office" (when will this writer's strike be OVER?!), and ocasionally the reality shows ala "Survivor", "The Biggest Loser", "Amazing Race" and the game shows... "Deal or No Deal", etc.

... I just realized that I spend WAY too much time watching movies and TV! tv

I really enjoyed "Unscrupulous", the story of a struggling musician Jimmy Voysofa who decides to bypass his local pay-to-play club and contacts a big radio DJ directly who in turn falls in love with his music. However, when the pay-to-play club owner tries to run Jimmy Voysofa out of town to he runs away to form a band in Canada named "TOS".

our son has become a Robin Williams fan as of late..
so, for christmas we got him "What Dreams May Come", a very surreal drama of death and redemption...

"Awakenings", based on the Dr. Oliver Sacks' memoir of the same name...

and "Good Will Hunting" w/ Matt Damon ...

w/ the right role Williams is quite the dramatic actor ...

I don't know where to begin!...I own over 70 DVD's at home. (I'm at work at the moment)

A few days before Christmas, it was raining very hard, so I killed some time at the mall & went to see WALKHARD. Even though it tanked at the box office, I loved the humor behind it. It's definately a "keeper" when it comes out on DVD. Some nudity, including male frontal. But it's about time, don't ya think ladies?

Other classics I can watch over and over again are: Calendar Girls, Something's Gotta Give, Erin Brockovich, Forrest Gump, and Pearl Harbor.

ITA Jacob, The Others and The Sixth Sense are also awesome mind twisters.

As for TV: I can't live with out my South Park!!

Jacob-

I'm pretty sure that Lost: Season 3 went on sale in December... at least it's available for rent. That's how I saw it.

By the way, the teaser for the Season 4 opener looks pretty sweet. Check it out at ABC's web site.
