Oh, and Steve Martin -- LOVE him! Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid -- I watch it over and over again -- so funny with all the old film clips in it. And, a bit more recently, I thought Bowfinger was so well done. _________________ Diane

LOVED Steve Martin in "Leap of Faith" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". Saw him live in concert MANY MANY moons ago at LSU. I'd guess it was around 1975 or so, about the time he was really coming into the big time as a comedian.
Speaking of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" which brings to mind probably my alltime favorite actor, Michael Caine, another GREAT movie which unfortunately and inexplicably is NOT available on DVD is "Sleuth" with Michael Caine, Sir Laurence Olivier and no one else! _________________ Scott R. The Night Listener (Robin Williams so still you won't recognize him)
Shop Girl (Steve Martin novella adaptation)
Hotel Rwanda
Blood Diamond
Amazing Grace Apocolypto (who needs car chases?)
are some of my favorite recent films.
A Bridge Too Far, Glory, and The Longest Day are my favorite war films (which is my favorite genre)
Others older that I love:
Muriel's Wedding, The Mission, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Favorite Kids:
Peter Pan (from about 2004), Jumanji, Babe (Pig in the City) and Lemony Snicket.
And Lisa Kudrow's The Comeback is the most painfully real (and hilarious) thing I have ever seen.

Melba, I love the original Babe movie, too, as well as Lemony Snickets. Own both of them. _________________ Scott R. Pollak Warm. Real. Natural. www.voicebyscott.com

Scott, yeah, Babe is the sweetest thing. James Cromwell is magical -- especially when he sings and dances for the wee little pig. Didn't he get some nominations for that role? And whatever actress plays Esme is so interesting and real. The only reason I like the second better is the cinematography and art direction. That balloon drop at the end is breathtaking.
Another recent years film I forgot is Little Miss Sunshine! You think it's going to answer the question "What is beautiful?", but instead it answers the question "What is manly?" Stunning performances. (Lots of bad language and weird situations, though.)
And Friends With Money. I think guys could get through it, too. And Derailed. Oh and Crash was a favorite, too. Which reminds me of Nashville. Old Robert Altman film. Lots of stories barely touching, never coming together. Dark comedy, though, instead of so ... um dramatic and crash-like. Okay I'll shut up. Movies are my favorite thing. Where's my Netflix?

A few days before Christmas, it was raining very hard, so I killed some time at the mall & went to see WALKHARD. Even though it tanked at the box office, I loved the humor behind it. It's definately a "keeper" when it comes out on DVD. Some nudity, including male frontal. But it's about time, don't ya think ladies?
Other classics I can watch over and over again are: Calendar Girls, Something's Gotta Give, Erin Brockovich, Forrest Gump, and Pearl Harbor.
ITA Jacob, The Others and The Sixth Sense are also awesome mind twisters.
As for TV: I can't live with out my South Park!!
Allison:
I think you and I would have a blast together!! We seem to have a lot of the same taste in movies (and TV!!!)
Got to see Walk Hard at a preview screening (I'm still friends with the gal that produced Siskel & Ebert-- she's now a reviewer in the paper). John C Reilly was there with his family. Very exciting!! Just saw it again w/ the hubby and laughed just as hard again. Loved the guy who played John Lennon" in it-- it cracked me up!!
Love Southpark too!! Ooh... and (I know it was already mentioned) Arrested Development... "and that's why you should never yell" _________________ Dina's Voice To go!

Here are a few more I thought of that I like a lot: O Brother Where Art Thou?, A Few Good Men, Tombstone, Walk The Line, French Kiss, and Sleepless In Seattle.
More Sci-Fi: AI, and Bicentennial Man.
More Strange and out there: What Dream May Come, "Go," and American Beauty
Remember those goofy fun 80s movies? One I really liked was Cant Buy Me Love. It was the first Patrick Dempsey flick I watched. It was fun and a really good story about trying to fit in. Just a few more of my favorites.....

Strange?? I didn't think so, infact it's one of those titles I kick myself for having forgotten to mention previously - simply one of the most beautiful movies ever!
Speaking of beautiful movies, be sure to check out the Chinese adventure-movies like "House Of Flying Daggers", "Hero", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Curse Of The Golden City". Absolutely breathtaking cinematography! _________________ Regards,

I totally agree. I love that movie. For one thing, Annabella Sciorra is my idea of a gorgeous woman. And the late Michael Kamen did the music for that movie and, as the main theme, he recycled a fabulous tune called Beside You that he did back in the 60s with the NY Rock 'n Roll Ensemble.
Why, here it is now:

We saw a WONDERFUL movie last night. HIGHLY recommended and based on an astounding true story: "The Pursuit of Happyness". If you haven't already seen it, it is a MUST SEE!
Note that at the very end, as Will Smith and his real-life son, Jadyn (a wonderful little actor, BTW) are walking down a street in S.F., and his son is telling him knock-knock jokes, they pass by a well dressed black man. Will Smith turns around to take a look at the guy.
The guy they pass is the REAL Christopher Gardner, the man that this story is about, making a cameo appearance at the very end of the movie. _________________ Scott R. Pollak Warm. Real. Natural. www.voicebyscott.com

Just saw "I Am Legend" tonight.
Wow! Personally, I loved it. My wife, however, read the book, and said that the movie was entirely different from the book. In some ways she was disappointed, but she said she greatly preferred how the movie ended which was, again, totally different from the book.
I'd have to strongly recommend this movie. _________________ Scott R. Pollak Warm. Real. Natural. www.voicebyscott.com
