My turn to chime in here, in the past 6 months:
Nearly 630 leads, answered 321 of them and so far zero results.
More recently, have become more selective in my responses, and there has been no difference.
And on numerous occassions, I've been lucky enough to be among the first 20 or so to responed.
Enough said. |

Nice website you have! Very innovating! Reminds of Reason 2.0
Who designed it?
All in all hard to say because if you audition for a lead with voice123 and a client visits your profile and you have the link exchange activated then they can contact you directly from your website if they wanted to.
The problem is that there isn't a voiceover boom? Eveyone here has got amazing talent but can you imagine hearing the guy from moviephone on every commercial you see on TV. Sometimes it's a particular sound in a voice they are looking for and when they think they've found it the line stops here but they always come back to look for more because even when or if you become the voice it usualy isn't for long, unless it's the moviephone.
It's always something...I remember one time I went out to a night club and the bouncers were letting everyone in based on how hot they looked.
They were like:
Hot
Hot!
Hot!!
Then when I got to the door they were like: "no way man" when I had asked: "why?" their reply was: "not with those shoes man"
Apparently Uggs aren't welcome in the night club scene.
Guess even if one can talk the talk they have to be able to walk the walk.
I feel your pain!

I started as a Premium member more than a year ago and after approximately 400 auditions and a maybe 10 paying jobs, I decided not to renew. I was tired of being #156 in a line of 300 auditions, most of which were of poor quality for a variety of reasons. IMHO, clients just won't listen beyond #20, particularly if they're only filling a $300 job.
I came to that realization when I had to fill a job myself with a British talent and found that I stopped listening to auditions even before reaching #20. So, why would other businesspeople be different?
But, I've just purchased a Premium Membership. Why? In the past few weeks, I've heard and read that V123 is going to make a genuine effort to reward talent who receive excellent client feedback with more audition opportunities, which would leave behind those talent with poor ratings and prevent them from clogging the system. I've also heard that there'll be a opportunity for clients to specify the limit of auditions they'll want to hear.
Both of these improvements I think are two positive steps in an effort by V123 to improve its business model and service both of its customer groups - talent and clients - better. I'm ready to give it another shot.
Let's share our hit ratio with one another to see how it changes over time particularly after V123 makes those changes.
Under the present climate, I'd estimate my hit ratio to be 50:1 What's yours?
Thanks,
Bill

Hello everyone,
| Quote: | | it seems like things have really slowed down lately. Has SmartCast kicked in, and am I suffering because of it? |
Barry the system as not kicked in yet, it will be very soon. Regarding the amount of leads it is normal for this time of the year to see a little less, nothing to worry about.
As you know the new ¨Voice123 SmartCast¨ is going to help us all get a higher quality jobs and auditions with limited amount of talents replying to the same lead, increasing the possibilities.
| Quote: | | but it seems the emails get held somewhere and are about 20 minutes late |
Gary, that is a quite annoying situation. Try changing your e mail provider and watch the delivery times, try Gmail or Hotmail, even the free ones are good. |

| Ok I now stand corrected: 301:1 - yes I got a gig and it was super! -not just a sit in my home studio and send in the Mp3 version (and I would have been happy with that as well). What else would you call recording in a super studio in NYC for a major production company for a popular TV show! If I can share anything it's this; stay with it and don't low ball. The more no's you get the closer you get. Major Sanders got 1,000 no answers before he got one restaurant to buy his KFC recipe. Now that's a lot of rejection. I can't say that I wasn't ready to give up not too long ago. Keep going. I am. Now for the next 301.... |

280:1 Not the best ratio yet but I have only been at it 3 months. The one job really gave me boost as the client was very happy. It has been a while since that job so my morale was slipping, however today I attended V123's webinar with Debbie Munro and it was a great boost as well. Ready to get back at working hard and trying to learn.
I will say that I am very concerned with the new SmartCast system. Since I currently only have one "win" how will I get a score that will bring me more leads? Is this a chicken & egg problem?
I also get concerned with auditioning when I am 60th or 160th! I guess these are practice auditions.

Wow, some pretty discouraging numbers there, guys. I'm new to this site, so I haven't been in this for a year to make a definitive statement about whether the Premium Membership fee I paid was justified.
I guess I'll have to look at this as a fun hobby that I'll do whenever other business is slow (I'm a photographer, videographer and video editor too).
I do enjoy getting up in the morning and walking over to the computer to see how many leads I have in my inbox. And I enjoy the creative variety in the various characters scripts call for. It's like Christmas every day!
Good news about prioritizing leads to members who have a high work-to-audition ratio. Hope I'm one of them! |

Okay I've been on the fence about upgrading to the premium membership. Another way to look at it is it's another way to market. I am a member of the "other" site and made more than my money back in the first 30 days and not by auditioning. They found me through a search. So I would also make sure your profile has certain "keywords" that people might search for when looking for a voice using the search function. I'll probably join for this reason if nothing else after the first of the year. Just another way to look at it instead of soley looking at auditions.

Russ:
First of all, kudoes on your web site. Classy, elegant, informative....real nice.
I, too, moonlight at that other place.
V123 is certainly a friendlier, merrier place where I feel a real closeness to my peers, but that other place does generate more audition-less leads (about one a week) through their mysterious filtering system.
I mean, I use the same key words there as here, so it is to wonder why the disparity. I'd guess there are more voices and key words similar to mine at V123, or clients who prefer to listen to demos.
Or maybe you and Scott just have everyone wrapped up here......
Anyway, may 2007 be teeming with Little Green Icons for you, and
Voice On!

Re: Hits
Must remember to stay on topic....must remember to stay on topic....
I, too, used to answer every posting, which only leads to lesser takes and a lower ratio.
But the market talks, and we need listen. After my first few jobs were for the same basic style ('Non-Sominex Droning'), I began to work harder at providing better auditions for those that suited me.
And I gave up sounding like Lorne Greene (I'm dating myself there) on speed to peddle Hondas. And I began to enjoy happily deleting insultingly lowball budgets.
I went from a ratio of 1 per 90 to about 1 per 30.
And, since they're generally better paying ones, I win out two ways.
But it does seem cyclical. I'll go two weeks without a hit, and then get three over two days.
I've also gravitated towards sending in very short Generics...:10 to :15 clips that are most similar to the project outlined.
Ooops....must stay on topic....must stay on topic....
Voice On!
