Greetings.
I just learned this morning of a neat web site that allows you to listen to standardized voice clips, recorded through 25 brands of microphones, AND for each brand there are most of the models of mikes that they make.
Once you have selected your mike brand and model, then you choose what type of recording that you want to audition. The choices are (depending on the mike):
- Acoustic Guitar
- Clean Guitar
- Distorted Guitar
- Female Vocal
- Hip-hop Vocal
- Male Vocal
The "Male Vocal" for example, is the same guy singing the same phrase (a capella and "dry") on all of the samples.
Some of the mikes don't give you a choice of vocals, but I guess that is because the mike is considered preferrable for instruments.
So now you can do a comparative listening test BEFORE you go out and make that investment in a new mike. That's what I did today!
The URL is: http://www.studioauditions.com/jamroomsessions_home.php
I hope this proves useful to you.
