Hi Tom!
I personally use Cool Edit Pro. I use it at work and was able to install a copy at home for free. The last I heard, the softwear costs about $120 USD.
Other folks at the board have talked about Adobe. It's suppposed to be pretty simple and easy to use. I've read others use ProTools.
Are you using Windows or are you on a MAC? _________________ AllisonScussel@comcast.net |

Allison, Cool Edit Pro is now Adobe Audition, so just for the record, Cool Edit Pro isn't available any more. But Adobe Audition is and it's the same thing, basically.
Pro Tools is the choice of most major recording studios while Cool Edit/ Audition is what the majority of radio stations seem to use. Pro Tools is a fairly hefty investment for someone just starting out and either one has a substantial learning curve if you've never really worked in high-end digital audio before. I think starting out with a freebie like Audacity is the way to begin. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Tom
While you are at it look into CubaseSE http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CubaseSE3/
I have used Cool Edit Pro, the base on which Audition was built. It is a good program and Scott is right it seem to be very popular with radio stations.
I have been using Cubase to build a weekly radio program, to me it seems much easier to use and its "audio engine" is the one used by Nuendo. I got Cubase with the purchase of an audio i/o. I have had Nuendo for many years before using Cubase.
CubaseSE is right at $150.00 at Sweetwater. I was looking for comparison prices for Adobe Audition 3 ( the current product) and noticed that non of the traditional music/sound stores carry the product, not even Sweetwater. Why I don't know.
I’m pretty sure it will cost more than CubaseSE _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"

Yikes! I just looked and to purchase a new copy of Audition 3 direct from Adobe is around $350!!! I think it was around $100 when I bought it some years ago. Sheesh. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Scott
Maybe its time to switch.
CubaseSE 48 tracks at 96hhz, an upgrade path to the big version and I think an upgrad path to Nuendo.
The full version of Cubsse (street price $799.00) will record at 196 khz and do gobs of tracks, but for voice work CubaseSE will rock.
Scott the up grade to Audition 3 for you, according to Adobe, is $99.00 _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"

|
|
Greetings.
If you are a Mac user, I would highly recommend GarageBand. It comes bundled with all Macs and is part of the Apple "iLife" package. You can do multiple tracks with this software and it has MANY sound enhancement features that you'd normally need to buy outboard gear for, or go to a professional studio for.
As with all things "Apple" it's relatively user-friendly. I recorded all of my demos on this site using it.
