I landed the "Open Hearts" adoption film project. After getting a rating of a 4.0, I was really shocked to get the email today saying that I got the job. They also said they liked my second read better than my first. I'm so glad I put both reads on the custom demo. I would have chosen the first if I had had to make a choice. The script is much longer and emotional than the audition, so I'm going to have to listen to my tearful songs.....a song called Noah by Micheal W Smith.

Traces.....an oldie

Honey.....another oldie.

I think 3 songs and the already good script should do it, but I'm going to have to memorize script.

Here's my audition again

Deby

CONGRATS!Ii thought that was a good fit for you, and I hafta agree with the client about liking the 2nd read better--it was a little less melodramatic and very real to my ears!!

Way to go!!

Way to go, Deby! If I recall correctly, over in the "L&R" thread I may have been less than 100% about this audition, which shows how little I know! I'm thrilled for you and would LOVE to hear the final, produced piece. CONGRATS!!!

Deby-

Congrats! Fantastic read!!

Another great song that stirs the emotions (that happens to be about adoption) is "When Love Takes You In" by Steven Curtis Chapman... makes me want to run to the adoption agency every time I hear it.

Congrats, but why do you think you need to memorize the script?

Because of the tears, I imagine.
Well done, Deby.

Connie, its not that I can't act with a script in my hand. I just feel that I can only reach a certain level of believability until the words are my own. I dont feel that they are my own or internalized until it's memorized. I suppose it's a throw back from my days in front of the camera, and my theater background. I just feel that I go to another level when I'm "off book" I don't always have the motivation, or I feel too pressed time for that when I'm auditioning though. Reading is better than searching for the words that you struggle to find in your head.

It's the same thing with singing. Ever notice the difference between a choir with books in hand and a choir with no books in hand. I mean I can sing well reading the words off the karaoke screen, but I perform better when it's memorized. I know you don't really have to move in voiceover, but when I'm off book I feel more free to move, even if I'm only moving in my imagination.

Maybe that is why audio book work is harder than I thought it would be.

Nice job Deby! Your reads were light and thoughtful yet weighty with emotion (especially the second).

I know what you mean about memorizing the lines...to me it's a slight distraction reading. I feel more comfortable and more free if I can just speak it.

Congradulations!

Cheers,
Cameron

Well better to tug at the heartstrings than trip on my shoestrings Oh my god!

Now I just have to figure out how to write an invoice. Very Happy

I'm going to hijack my own thread and ask all backup singers to check out my post in the Demo section. I'm trying to sell a song to Disney. Wink
