I just spent some time looking at the V123 page on the SmartCast system, which says V123 does a preliminary screening of which talents will receive auditions. Some of the criteria are straightforward (i.e. gender, etc.) but other criteria mentioned are pretty subjective. I offer the following quote as an example:

voice talent feedback rating and history. Voice123 constantly gets feedback from the auditions, quotes, and work of all of our talents. Voice123's SmartCast prefers talents with significant positive feedback.

I'd love to know how we talents can gain some insight into these personal statistics about our feedback, preferred talent status, auditions and work. Only seems fair....since they will affect our opportunities for future work.

I can't seem to unearth this info anywhere on the site. Ideas, anyone?

Yes! Excellent question!
I have wondered about that myself. I really think we deserve to know our, "score" or whatever type of feedback we have. Can Voice123 do this for us?

Carol, Ron:
I haven't yet read what you obviously have, but my initial reflex is to applaud any filtering system that cuts the huge number of responses to postings. And while I fully realize that many of us (including - Gasp! - I) will thus be left out of some audition opportunities, I don't want to be privvy to feedback and reviews.
The market does it for you.
Voicing is mostly a private, solitary pursuit.
And if you're getting Private Leads and jobs, that's all the feedback you need.... no?
And if you're not, you darn well better be strong enough to pinpoint your own weaknesses and improve on them.
What exactly is the difference a)between not getting any gigs at all, and b) not getting any jobs at all and reading negative feedback to boot?
Comes to the same thing; but without the slaps upside the head.
In the business world, which I'm happily rid of, those horrid Performance Reviews come down to ratings. The boss doesn't tell you that Biff said this, and Olive said this, and Jessie saw you downing six martinis at lunch hour. The boss just says you're on thin ice, and had better smarten up.
In the entertainment world, which I'm a trifle happier with, you audition and win (rarely) and audition and hear nothing (almost always), but NEVER do the casting people call you to tell you that maybe you shouldn't have played the tough cop role in a wavering falsetto.
Simply put, if you're in the starting lineup, you're doing all right. If you're on the bench, you'd better step it up.
Ain't gigs won feedback enough? I tend to think so.

Robert - I don't know anything at all about the (coming?) new system - but I read the "feedback" element as reviews by clients we worked with. ala ebay. "Sally voiced my project and she was very easy to work with.", et. al. But then again, I was wrong once.

In the new version all the information regarding feedback provided by clients will be available to the talents, making it easier to track the performance of demos, the new voice123 comes with more tools and improved features; soon more information will be released.

Okay, we've been hearing about the new and improved V123 and SmartCast for quite a while now, and actually I'm looking forward to it, especially if it cuts the crowd down in terms of auditions. But WHEN is it actually, finally gonna be here?

If there was one thing I learned during my 29 year career in the Marine Corps was the concept of "hurry up and wait"...lol. Laughing

Just a thought....why would we want limit who and who does not receive audition opportunities? I bring this up as someone who will be joining V123 as a premium member soon. Why should my audition opportunity be limited. Does that make sense?

Hello Mike,

The new SmartCast system is not a limiting tool but in the opposite case something that will increase the chances of landing gigs using the website.
Basically the system will allow the client to choose how many talents they want to audition and the system will send the lead to a selected group of talents.

If you are new, it is nothing to worry about. The system will select the talents using criteria like the voice specifics, recording capabilities, quality of your demos, what kind of projects do you normally reply to, feedback received from clients regarding your submitted auditions, etc.

The SmartCast system will not have a general approach but a more personalized one, giving as a result a more accurate way to fin and select talents.

It will also address the amount of talents replying to a single lead and directly raising the amount of possibilities of getting exposure.

Be patient, we are sure it’s going to work just fine for all of us.

Freddie:

One area I'd recommend focusing on in SmartCast is ensuring the clients enter their criteria correctly and accurately. Sometimes I see requests for 'Generic' demos yet the description of the gig includes a script. Occasionally I get leads for female roles. That just tells me whoever input the information missed a thing or two.

My wife, an actress, often gets leads for gigs requiring actors that are significantly younger, older, fatter or male in her inbox at another online casting service (not V123). I suspect the same problem there, but it's more rampant.

If you're going to 'target' gigs to the relevant talent, be sure your aim is good!

Barry
