As a new guy looking for his first job, which formats should I offer to start? Which jobs should I go after at the start?

Hi Darren,

I wouldn't limit your product by the format - offer them all!

Most of the audio editors will convert between formats. Record in a higher-def format like AIFF or WAV, then convert as needed.

Different clients will have different needs, and there's no reason not to give them what they want (within reason, and for the right price, of course Wink )

The product is your voice - all the rest is just nuts and bolts...

My 2 cents,

The more options on format and delivery, the more you can offer to a customer. The formats are many and varied. I offer mp3 or wav, aiff, and also offer to email files, burn to CD or even provide FTP download.

If your software is flexible enough to save to many different formats, no limits necessary.

One anecdotal story. On my last VO Phone system job, I got all the wav files to them, formatted in Mu-Law format. All was fine but my software saved them with a .WAV instead of .wav. All I had to do was rename the files to .wav to get rid of the capital letters, and it worked out fine.
