As I mentioned in another thread, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I was sitting at the computer when SmartCast invited me to submit for this lead:
http://voice123.com:80/lv/Horse_event.html
It was from a first-time seeker who was looking for only 10 demos. The good news is I got to submit mine, received 5 stars, and got the job.
The bad news is the seeker contacted me directly by e-mail, bypassing the Voice123 mechanism for awarding jobs. He apparently closed the project ahead of his initial deadline once he had contacted me. He did listen to all the demos he received but, because he dealt with me directly, SmartCast thinks this was just one more lead I answered and not a job I actually got. Thus, I don't get to move up in the SmartCast standings.
Since I have never been a seeker, I did not know how to instruct him in the proper method of "hiring" me through the official Voice123 channels, although he was willing to do so. However, I'm afraid that since he closed the project, that is no longer possible.

Lee, congrats on the job. I wouldn't worry about him 'hiring you officially' thru SmartCast. I'm not even sure how that works. To my knowledge NONE of my V123 clients has ever hired me any other way rather than simply calling me or e-mailing me directly and it hasn't affected my ratings. I doubt this will have ANY effect on your ratings, and as we're learning here, the ratings don't matter much anyway.

Enjoy the gig, do the great job I know you'll do, and build up a relationship with a new client! Way to go, buddy!

Scott is right Lee. Don't worry about it at all. When I land a job here or get a private lead I always give them my regular e-mail address and ask them to contact me that way. Be happy for the gig!

Yes, Lee,

Part of the fun here at 123 is that we get no points for GETTING a job, just not applying for too many and getting rave reviews on the few that we do!
Congrats and enjoy!

Congratulations Lee! You've got at least another two to go!

As far as the whole hiring through smartcast or not thing, I agree with the others. I really don't think it matters with regard to rankings. I too have always been contacted directly.

Is there anyone out there that knows for sure?

Anyway, the important thing is that you got the job. My hearty congratulations go out to you!!

Wow! He sought only ten demos and landed a good 'un.

That's like fishing in a puddle and landing a marlin, no?
Lucky for him you were vigilant and on-the-spot, Marlin...uhhh, Lee.
Congrats!

Actually made two trips up that way in the past 3-4 weeks. On September 30th I attended the WFEA 75th anniversary celebration. http://www.manfrommars.com/wfea_75th.html and took the scenic route up I-91 to Keene and across 101 so I was in the shadow of Mt. Monadnock. But I haven't been to the summit since my senior year in high school and that was 40 years ago as part of a school tradition. One random day, not previously revealed, they would announce that it was "Mountain Day," cancel all our classes and bus us to Monadnock, and the whole class would hike up the mountain.

Then last weekend I drove up to Durham to take part in a reunion of my old college radio station. http://www.aimpages.com/wunhreunion/profile.html
Not much foliage to speak of either weekend.

I believe she got 12 demos and, to her credit, she listened to all of them even though at least one or two came in after she had apparently decided to go with mine.
