Hello Everyone!

Thanks for having me here. It’s always a pleasure meeting new people on and offline . . . especially those of you who are in the voice biz.

I graduated from the Columbia School Of Broadcasting in VA. I got my first radio job in October 2001 and I’m still kickin' it over there. I’m not one to say that I love my job . . . but I can honestly say that I love what I do and it just so happens that I also receive compensation for what I love doing. Drool

I work at WRJW 1320AM in Picayune, MS as an Afternoon Drive Announcer from Noon until 5pm Monday thru Friday. My air shift is completely live with no voice drops and no delay Shocked . Actually, WRJW is one of the first 60 country radio stations in the USA. There’s tons of history there.

I tried making a move to larger major market radio stations, but was quickly disappointed with the pay. I was also shocked to learn how some jocks at these major market stations wished they could do what I do. Shocked I thought they were joking. But for the five hours on air, I use 3 vintage cart machines, a double tape deck, a Technics turntable (yes I do play vinyl), 3 Marantz CD players, an ElectroVoice RE-20 mic & 3 SM58s, and an old audio arts board to pull my shift. Whether I’m speaking on mic, airing a syndicated programs or music, I have to consciously back-time the content to bring in the ABC Network News at the top of the hour and the MS Network News at the bottom of the hour from satellite feeds. Our station log is STILL ON PAPER! LOL! At one time, I complained to the GM about going live assist or even fully automated. I quickly changed my mind after a couple of jocks from a major market radio station in New Orleans expressed their envy. (I wouldn’t give it up for the world.) Very Happy

After my air shift, I voice and fully produce radio ads from 5pm until it’s done. I can have anywhere from 1 to 25 commercials to voice and produce in one session (I average about 10 a day). Up until March ’07, I was stuck with analog production equipment. SHEESH! Rolling Eyes Rocking reels back and forth on reel to reel, razor blades to cut and splice, using 2 cassette decks, a turntable and 2 CD players as multiple sources for “layering” various content and putting the final cut onto cart. Even though I had a home studio set up with a PC and Cool Edit/Adobe Audition, I couldn’t bring my work home. Mad

Over the past 6 years, I’ve been building up my home studio for digital production and have done a few freebies and had some paying clients on the side. But in March ’07, I finally convinced my GM to build a new state of the art digital studio mimicking my set up at home. YAY! Very Happy Life is good.

Anyhoo . . . long story short . . . I’m glad to be here and look forward to meeting some of you one day if I’m in your part of the world. I’m here to showcase my talent to potential paying clients. I also want to get acquainted with the voice talent here and maybe learn a thing or two (& More) for improving my talent. I’m a firm believer that a few crumbs from a winner’s table is more rewarding than a banquet at a loser’s table. You voice talents rock!

It sounds like the same folks own your station that own WPAQ in Mt Airy (aka Mayberry). They still have the orginal Gates board in use.

I remember, cart machines, slip cueing, and all the issues you have with running an air shift with the gear you are using.

But then there is the HAH factor. I know, you will never get the meaning of that one so just PM me and I'll share.

Good luck
