Since Heather (really liked your Ruby!) was brave enough to post the Jeanne White grieving mother, I thought I'd post mine as well. I wasn't entirely happy with it because I couldn't get the intimate, real sound I wanted with the technical clean sound needed. I think it was okay to leave the breathing and mouth noises of a mother truly tearing up (yes, Scott and all the ex-plosives!). On the first take, I just went with the raw emotion, not really holding anything back, on the second I tried to distance myself just a little. So, technically imperfect, but I really felt it -- hard to deliver a line like.. "like the last ray of sunlight.." I don't think a mother recounting her son's death would talk like that. And not sure how the seeker was intending to use it. All in all, it was an interesting read.

Heather-
Nice job. Feathers and all. The second take on Ruby was better. In the first one, slowly had a minnisotan quality to it.

The emotion in the second one was very authentic.

Diane-
I liked the emotion of the first one best, but you are right the technical aspects were rough. It would be nie if you could get a blend of the two reads.

I thought I would have the first one up here but Diane beat me.

Anyway...I couldn't believe they used the words ancient chinese formula. But anyway. I think I am getting back almost to my old mediocre voice style. Laughing

Hey, George --
Yeah, I was up early this morning! LOVED the quality of your voice on this (ancient Chinese formula -- that's hard to read without laughing) but I found it very choppy. If you read more of it straight though and used your pauses more strategically, it would really be effective.
Thanks for your comments, and you know, I agree that a blend of my two reads would have hit it just right.

Diane-
Thanks. My wife just listened to it and said "wow, that sounds really choppy". I had to read the thing about ten times w/o a pop filter then took what I thought were the best parts of each. Now it sounds like ancient chinese voice chop. I just dug my filter out and stuck it back on.

Diane,

Thanks for joining me outside the coop! Laughing
I liked your emotion in the first read. However I liked the way your second one sounded as if you were really going back and remembering the situation. I also agree that the spot needed all the breaths, mouth gunk and the lot. A grieving mother would not sound noise free.

George,
That is really interesting that you heard a slight MN quality......I have never even been to MN! Laughing That is pretty much my plain ol speaking voice. So, now I will have to go back and listen to myself!!
Don't ya know! Wink

I really enjoyed your read on the ancient Chinese formula: (how else would one describe that type of formula...seemed ok to me)? The only thing my ears noticed was that the pacing could go up a notch.

I personally can not believe we beat all the regular posters to the thread this morning. Shocked

Heather --
We old folks remember that phrase in a corny old commercial! Or maybe it was "ancient Chinese secret" -- can't really recall now -- memory not what it used to be... Very Happy

Hey all, man the improvements I have been hearing the last few weeks is great. Lots of advice, community help and support...its been good to see.

Tried out this one. More my age and if I wouldnt have been so restless as a young man, I could have been retired today.

Hind site is 20/20 for sure.

Craig

What the heck... Monday's winding down, just got off of a wonderfully unexpected phone call from the great Robert Jadah (you HAVE to hear that voice in person!!).... might as well wrap up the day with some scathing reviews.

Er, uh, I mean CONSTRUCTIVE CRITIQUES! Yeah, that's what I meant!

Diane, I didn't hear Heather's read on this, but heavenly Father that was a PERFORMANCE! Oh my... worthy of a v/o Oscar. To hell with plosives! I couldn't get beyond the intensity and beauty of your delivery to even notice or care. I am truly in awe. Wow. Wow......

George... always a joy to see your smiling avatar here on the forums. The slim bracelet, eh? Yeah, right.
George, I think you're not being George here. Let me see if I can explain. You're reaching waaaaaaaaaay down into your diaphragm and trying to get such a deep impactful read that it just seemed too much of a stretch. Your tonal quality is great, sounds terrific. But it's kind of like the spot Hail did on the other thread where his delivery didn't fit the spot. This spot just doesn't seem to fit you. When I hear George, I hear Tom Bodet and 'we'll leave the light on for ya'. Down home and friendly. I don't WANT George selling me fat-sucking jewelry!

Craig: I love your tone and sound, too. I would have loved this more if it sounded more spoken and not read. Sorry, just being honest... I just didn't think it was your strongest.

Submitting this one because it was such a fun and unique script. Here's what they said they wanted:

"Delivered by a deep, engaging, warm voice. Movie-trailer approach.
Will be used online to advertise an online game. "

Dunno that I hit the engaging or warm part, but I had fun with it.

LOL....Scott if I really had fat sucking bracelets I wouldn't need to sell them....people would knock down my door.

I was trying to do that really close intimate fat sucking bracelet sales pitch and I can tell from the feed back it went splat. But what the heck. The worst that can happen is a one rating.

Tom Bodett huh? Well I am glad I am not typecast. Wink

Craig-
Good to hear you again. You always sound great to me.

Scott-
Excellent read as usual. I must say when I hear your voice I have always thought of a glupod. Just that down home computer born glupod. It really fits your natural cadence. You should look for more of these glupod style reads. Wink

Here is one for Edward Jones. I go to church with a guy who runs one of the Edward Jones offices. I am going to see if he can pull some strings. Laughing

Dang....
A Canadian glupod. Most excellent Robert. But I thought you were born inside a Moosehead vat, not a computer. Laughing

George, interesting that you have an Edward Jones read. About 3 years ago I was training with them, thinking I'd go into that line of work and become filthy rich (much like folks think about going into v/o), but, just like v/o work, I learned I'd mostly get filthy, and not rich. One week prior to taking my Series 7 brokerage licensing exam I realized how much I hated doing that stuff and bailed out. They're a great company to work for, though, and I have friends with them who couldn't be happier. You just have to be cut out for that stuff, though.

Robert: I think your voice was a GREAT fit for that. Very, very nicely done! (plus, what an interesting concept, eh?)
