Hi Taylor,
maybe I could help although I'm a bit too young. What exactly do you need? I find your post a bit confusing.
Do you need someone to pretend they are Vanessa Paradis? How long is your script?

Claire, we are dealing with a freak here, not a needy kid. Don't waste your time. _________________ voice talent Productions

That is a good quality to have Claire.
Unfortunately we get some scammers around here sometimes that try to take advantage of good people. _________________ voice talent Productions

Hey Erik,
How did you know that it wasn't a needy kid? I would've thought as Claire did. How do you spot the "Scambos"? _________________ Dina's Voice To go!

Oh man Lance, I don't mean to be thick but I guess I'm just not that astute at picking up the tone change. Looks like I'm going to have to be extra careful. Yeah, I'm just naive enough to believe that people are who they say they are-- even in an arena like this.
Thanks for telling me what to look for. By the way, can you point out the tone change for me? I'm not trying to be funny, I just really can't figure it out.
This happened once before, didn't it? Oh Lord, now everyone knows I'm easily duped! _________________ Dina's Voice To go!

Dina, We get about one or two of these a month and I usually just delete them but I thought I would leave this one up as an example.
The wording of the post, just screamed pervert, and after googling his email address, I found all kinds of posts from other boards, with different names, and all mentioning that he was 13 or 14 or 15 and to email him.

Clues of the "Creep Factor"
1.) Vanessa Paradis is so 1990's...how is a fifteen year-old going to even know who she is?
2.) Why would a high school project involve talking to her, even if the kid is French (and he's not, with a name like Taylor...maybe if it was Taillieur...)?
3.) Terrible grammar, and then he uses the controlled parenthetical phrase "(or something close to that)". Kids who can't spell never use parentheses.
4.) How many times does he use the word "really"?
5.) The kid would be "forever greatful". Teenagers don't say that.
6.) If a "seeker" on v123 sounds desperate, it's not worth responding to them. _________________ BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!!!

Thanks guys!
This is so "CSI". I think I need to hang around you guys to pick this stuff up. You guys are very observant. I never would've picked up on that if you hadn't pointed it out. Plus, I have no clue who Vanessa Paradis is.
Okay, so we know I'd make a crappy detective!
Now, what do you guys think about this email I got concerning money for me from Nicaragua? --Naw! I'm not THAT bad! _________________ Dina's Voice To go!

It's unfortunate that this happends to good folks. Read between the lines and you can spot things that say "something ain't a right here".
Thanks for the lookout Erik. Job well done.
Funny how we haven't heard from the "boy" since. _________________ Randy Stewart

I suppose one of those panhandlers who accosts me on the street really does just need bus fare to get home, but the cynic in me believes that most of those dudes are just scammin', especially the ones with the most elaborate patter. So my spare change usually stays in my pocket.
I guess the deal is the same with this guy and others like him. I don't feel too bad about turning him down because not only am I cynical, but I also know there are enough trusting souls out there that if the kid is legit, he probably got his trick or treat bag filled with free VOs. _________________ For more voice over demos, my life story, and other foolishness, please visit my website at www.leegordonproductions.com |

I'm not as astute as you guys at spotting stuff like this (despite the 20 or so daily notices I get from folks in third world countries wanting to stash their million$$ in my checking account), but another clue this isn't legit is that the guy hasn't come back to repost on this thread. _________________ Scott R.
