Trying to upload Mp3 file with Audacity

Hey everyone,

Need some help!!! I downloaded Audacity and then Lame so I can upload Mp3 files. When I tried it said that: "the application or DDL was sent to my desktop and this is not a valid windows image" I went back to Audacity website and it said the Lame file should be in a plugin file. I can't find a plugin file!? Do I have this or do I need to buy software for this??? I'm sure my ignorance on this subject is showing and any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I'm not sure, but I think the LAME mp3 converter is a DLL that belongs in the plugins folder in the Audacity program folder. It's been ages since I installed it and I don't have my laptop with me right now to check. So, hopefully someone can elaborate, or else I'll try to check tonight when I get home.

For certain, though, you do NOT need to purchase any additional software for Audacity. One of the reasons I think it's more difficult to install these days is that a number of the associated programs in this open source project have been abandoned or gone closed source.

Thanks for the information. I know I'm going to have to buy some software eventually anyway--- just thought this would be a good way to start practicing before taking that next step. Thanks again and Happy holidays. Peggy

Hello Peggy,

I’ll try to guide you step by step. First download the file attached to this message called "lame_enc.dll", then save on to your C: drive.
When you attempt to export on mp3 format, the program will ask you to locate the Lame encoder, find it on your C: drive and it should work fine from there.
