Just curious... How often do you all see leads for jingles? A friend of mine writes/produces jingles and is considering a subscription.

Thank you!

The jingles biz is about 20 times harder than v.o., and hardly anyone doing v.o. makes over $5,000 per year. (SAG and AFTRA studies)

I have seen less than a dozen requests for jingles on here in 4 years and my guess is that pay was on the rather low side.

Wow. Let me set the record straight here: First off, someone posted money info on this board re: jingle pros. Jingle singers make enormous sums! Residuals for union singers are what make us rich. Plus, we have union pensions as a result of our studio singing earnings over the years! In LA and NYC and San Diego and many other cities there are very active jingle centers. Jingles are NOT done in many cities, however, except perhaps by a few lone jingle writers sitting with their electronic keyboards and digital equipment writing alone and turning out mostly instrumental backgrounds, sometimes with a solo vocal. I'm talking about the "jingle houses," the "production houses" which still exist in major cities. If you want to be a studio singer, you have to be where the action is! And singers sing a wide variety of musical materials...jingles being the LEAST of what we do. We do pre-records and corporate show work and recorded song backgrounds and station sounders and IDs and so much more...about Voice123-it's doubtful the site would get much action from music producers. It's difficult to work with a singer except in your own studio. And producers in major centers don't need to go outside their city...there are fifty dozen singers praying for work right outside their studio doors. And much of our work is not solo singing...it is three to seven voice groups and those groups are heavy duty pros! Never 'wannabees!" So hope this helps clear up the industry today. If you want to sing in the studios, get hooked up with producers in your city. And if you live where there are few or no music producers, you'll need to move where the action is.

Well said Bettye. I've been a jingle writer/producer/singer (with national credits) for going on 30yrs. now (whew!!). Of course I've been full-time VO talent since 93 and only produce a jingle occasionally. Why? Because, just like you said, you've gotta be in the "mix" with the jingle-houses. I chose to leave that all behind and go "home" so-to-speak. The pro singers are always available, always on-time, always versital, always the perfect attitude, and NEVER NEVER NEVER cause any problem within the group what-so-ever. If they do.....it's Adios'! You can hear my jingle demo (not my vocals) on my Voice123 website. Old....but not bad.

Sir....That's not a "jingle".....that's a voice-over. A Jingle is a custom piece of music composed, performed, produced and engineered from the ground up with professional vocalists singing for a product line.

For my money (even if it ain't my money) - JINGLES are the safest bet in broadcast advertising!

They provide the element that so many spots - mostly local, Radio spots - are missing -- Emotion!

Most clients and a lot of agencies don't realize how important an emotional hook is in their advertising.

Too bad that so many advertisers avoid Jingles or their Radio equivalent - Creative Ads - in their efforts.

Instead, they insist on more and more content - as if anybody in the audience is going to get excited about "plenty o' free parking, longer, more convenient hours and the best prices in town for all your whojockapivia needs!"

There are few ad-elements as powerful and long-lasting as a fabulous jingle.... with donuts for the V/O, of course!
