| I'm wondering what all of you are using for your recording/editing programs. Currently I'm using cuebase because it came with my Tascam but it just conked out on me and I had to go and use someone else's program for a gig. Again, just curious what you pros are using. |

I'm using SoundForge and Acid Studio. I can also recommend Magix Audio Cleaning Lab (PC only, but good and well priced)
And of course, there's Audacity if you're looking for *FREE!* The new beta version is supposed to be a bit easier to use. Available on Mac and PC...
Happy trails,

| I use Adobe Audition 2.0 most of the time, tried a lot of software like protools, livelite, audacity, Soundforge, etc and still find it to be a good combination of tools and user friendly interfaces. |

| I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 which is now Adobe Audition since Adobe bought out Syntrillium (what a cool name, huh?!) a few years ago. The program has astounding capabilities and I've actually mixed and mastered 3 c.d.s on it. Has a bit of a learning curve but is rock solid. Every radio station I've worked at uses it. |

| Same here. I started with Cool Edit, followed it when it was bought out by Adobe, and am now using Audition 1.5. It's easy to use for recording, mixing and mastering, but you may want to get the Total Training dvd tutorial for Audition (check eBay). It's taught by Jason Levine and invariably covers something you didn't even know the program could do. Plus he throws in some nice engineering tips and helps you work with the big loop library (loopology) that ships with Adobe. I recently bought the tutorial for that reason and was surprised to learn there's a vocoder in the multitrack feature of Audition. I spent weeks looking for a vocoder not realizing I had one all along. Sheesh! That's what I get for not reading the manual, huh? |

Thanks Nikki - I'm going to try that right now. |

I'll be damned! I've worked with the program for 5 years and didn't know it had a vocorder! Of course, I've never opened the manual!
So this a.m. I threw together one quick piece of synth music from one of my songs along with a clip from a v123 audition I did yesterday and got the attached. Pretty cool! Thanks for the heads up, Nikki! |

Funny people!!
Thanks for all the tips. I had a burned copy of Adobe and thought I'd use my legitimate copy of Cuebase instead. Bad move. I may have to just go out and buy Audition...Ebay, huh??? There's an idea! |

Andrea, I'd STRONGLY encourage you to use ONLY legal copies of any and all software. For starters, it's just illegal to do otherwise. And like it or not, we're cheating the programmers, manufacturers, designers, etc. out of their earned income. And the programs are ridiculously cheap nowdays compared to what similar capabilities cost just a few short years ago.
Finally, if you're going to be a pro in this business, you need to be sure to conduct your business accordingly. That means no illegal software.
Yep, I feel pretty strongly about it. |

I also use Adobe Audition, (like everyone else apparently)
I'm partial to version 1.5, not a fan of the changes to 2.0... but I wanted to say that you REALLY SHOULD buy it. One or two jobs will pay for it, and it's a business expense!! (like the gold plating on my microphone right??)
