Hey voice talents!
Jerry Wells here, Clear Channel "Graduate" now doing this "full time" (HA!)
I have 32 years in radio in Philly - news reader, morning jock, production slave, (hated) voicetracker, etc. I won't go any further into the CC situation, but obviously I no longer fit into their plans. (maybe that's a good thing!)
I did my first voiceover as a college student in 1969. Since then I've done the occasional freelance job, but mostly focused on my steady employment. Joined V123 last October, and I've gotten a few jobs...
So here I am! Are we having fun yet?
Jerry

Hi Jerry. Welcome to the Boards. I too am ex CC...too much fun, but more fun here Cool You will find that radio does not carry a whole lot of weight in VO, in fact, there are probably many crutches and "radio" bad habits you will learn to rid yourself of--fortunately, there are many on this board who offer great guidance and patience...soak it up!

Thank you Debbie and Jon!
I really just started joining the forums a couple of weeks ago.
It's great to share with people who do what you do and understand. Everyone here is so supportive.
Yes, Jon, I have found that radio actually works to your detriment, both in the habits you can develop (quick and dirty) and in the way you're perceived by producers and sometimes other talent. (I don't tell producers anymore unless they ask!) I think, though, that doing VO work actually helped my radio stuff.
It can only get better here, once I start getting invitations to jobs that aren't already closed!
Is this thing on?
Jerry

Hi Jerry!
Do you know CeCe McGhee? She worked for CC Philly. Did some time at WDAS and is currently at Praise 103.9.
Love your rich sound. Very deep, smooth, and professional. Hope to see you around the board more often. Good luck with your endeavors!

Jerry,

It is a pleasure to have such a Philly radio icon on these boards. (I did radio in Philly for a short time time at Eagle 106 and have lived in the area all my life).

It's been my (brief) experience with this community here that radio announcers are seen as needing to be "fixed," when in fact, as you know, many of us have done the warm and personal sounding work that is so "in" these days. And you have always sounded so real on the air.

Good luck!
