groovin... funkin... rockin etc etc etc ...

dropped in on my kid last nite while he and his friends were jammin on that friggin 'guitar hero' video game ...
tunes soon became the topic of discussion while a fella on bass let go a few licks of heavy mental noise...
so, ever the compassionate buttinski, i suggested some Jaco Pastorius for a bit of inspiration... he says, "who?"..
luckily (kinda) i had the CD w/ me ...
now he knows of the greatest bass player ever, of the greatest fusion band ever...

my fave contemporary siren takes a different approach w/ that story line...

I worked on "Teen Town" for about a year, transcribing it off the LP bar by bar, even sometimes beat by beat, THEN set about learning to play it! I think I was about 16 or so...Eventually I got it, and thankfully I haven't lost it, I can still play it (more faithfully since I got a fretless bass), but forget about even lighting the candle to hold to Jaco...Heavy Weather is one of the greatest albums of all time of any genre (and this from a confirmed Beatles freak) and Jaco is SORELY missed.
