Nuts. Takes care of my audio-book demo....
Back on topic. I also think that a demo piece should be produced as much as it needs to be. Even if it's just an appropriate music bed to add life and dynamics to the piece. In the real world, we do hear pieces without a soundtrack, but, to me anyway, they sound wrong. Even a lot of phone messages have a track beneath the message. Good ones to use for those "dry" readings are political spots. I think I have part of one I did for some local proposition. I would never begin or end your demo montage with a spot like that, but it can be good somewhere in the middle.
