Hey everyone,
I'll be taking a little trip next month (and before this whole 'no invitations' stuff) was planning on bringing my laptop and mic with me. When you bring your stuff with you, how do you pack it safely? carry-on? checked baggage? |

Thanks September, that's what I was hoping for. I was worried that TSA would frown upon a mic going through on carry-on...I'm not sure why, but I worried that it could be a problem.
Thanks |

no worries! Just have it able to be inspected. It's never been an issue. Well, once. The guard was a part time rapper and wanted to talk mics while I was rushing to grab my flight |

Agreed, carry-on all the way. The only issue I've had was once when I had to convince TSA that I wasn't going to assemble my desktop mic stand and use it as a weapon... |

Good info... but check with your airline to see if you're also allowed an additional bag if you also have a laptop bag (most will allow this, but some of the "bargain airlines" are a little twitchy).
If so, then you might want to consider a small Pelican case that will make it as carry-on, yet also be large enough to hold your mic and preamp (the "pick 'n pluck" foam is great for making custom fits for whatever gear you have).
While some folks hate the name, I've got an Edirol FA-101 that I use in conjunction with a R0de NT-1A for use when traveling. Some folks don't like Edirol, but I've had no issues with their stuff as of yet (however, it's no Great River/GML/Millenia/etc. so those who own one shouldn't think that they are).
Regardless of how safe it is, my premium mics don't travel unless they're with me 24/7 and I've seen too much funny stuff happen to trust them even as carry-on.
But I'm paranoid... comes with the territo |
