Anybody else get this in their e-mail today? - Considering I DO NOT have Audiobooks listed in my profile (I hate doing them) - and they are in the UK - NO IDEA how they decided to send to me:

Subject: looking for voice-over-artists and narrators (with own recording and editing facilities) for its revolutionary 100% ROYALTIES PROGRAMM

AudioBooksForFree.com Ltd is looking for voice-over-artists and narrators (with own recording and editing facilities) to participate in revolutionary 100% ROYALTIES PROGRAMM.

You record and produce in your studio the audiobooks for us and we sell it to our customers.

All payments for your recording/production will be paid to your PayPal account.
(Payment itself will be processed through your own PayPal account).

No setup fees, commissions or ongoing costs of any kind.
Delivery: WAV on DVD or CD.
This could be excellent way to monetise the quiet time when you and your studio
are idle in expectation of those lucrative advertising voiceover jobs.

If you are interested to find our more how exactly our 100% ROYALTIES SYSTEM operates go to:

http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/download/contributer.asp

For our standard 100% Royalties contract go to:

http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/download/100PercentRoyaltiesContract.htm

To see some of the audiobooks that are already on this system (they have a bit pinkish background to distinguish from our own recordings/productions) go to:

http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/download/default.asp?refnum=4000002
http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/download/default.asp?refnum=4000010

THERE'S MORE - but this was the gist of it..

Yep, I got that one too. Apparently these are all titles in the public domain. Supposedly, the VO artist gets 100% of the payment each time an audiobook is downloaded; of course, that's only if the user pays a $3 to $7 fee for "higher" audio quality instead of a bunch of mp3s at 8 kbps. (Huh?)

So, I can spend all my down time recording audiobooks for which I may or may not ever be paid? Where do I sign?

The copy is full of typos. This is the first sign of a Nigerian bank funds transfer.

Forget them, record the audiobook(s), produce a master copy, get a bunch of duplicates made (with non-crappy covers/graphics), and go through CDBaby. They are legit.

You don't need to actually produce a physical CD to list a CDBaby downloadable album. Check the site for details.

http://cdbaby.net/dd-only

Burn one finished mastered copy of your music on to a regular audio CD-R. (NO mp3, aiff, or wav. Just regular audio CD.)
...
Mail that one CD to us, with a note explaining that it is for digital distribution only.

It's then permanently out-of-stock-but-downloadable.

OK... here it is several days later... Yes, I got that one too, printed it out to read one of these days...haven't gotten around to it...

But if it's just reading public domain material and they sellit... you can read public domain and YOU sell it...

OR... offer it to audible.com. They often accept materials on a commission basis. They may take a cut (50%?) but they are one of the most well known sites of their kind, very reputable, with LOTS of traffic. They're affiliated with Audiofile Magazine, the audiobook industry's magazine.
