Hi all,
I just received this lead:

THIS IS A REPOST OF PREVIOUS CASTING!

Quote:
We found almost all of you merely submitted generic demos to our recent casting, thus most were deleted. We are looking for custom impressions and character voices for cell phone ringtones. You MUST be creative and have the ability to adlib up to 15-seconds (3 to 4 lines) of dialog in your character, or celebrity voice. If you are selected as one of our ringtone talent, we will contact you with further instructions and an agreement by email. We have a major contract pending and talent are to be paid $1.00 per download and $10.00 per custom ringtone request from our cell phone clients. To the point our vo talent supply 3 to 4 lines of adlibed dialog, we produce the ringtones and sell them online. This could
be very lucrative for selected talent as we seek long-term partnerships with talent. These are to be used as ringtones, NOT voicemail, or answering machine messages. As an established animation and game sound studio we will NOT use your samples without permission. Please ONLY adlib and submit custom character and impression samples based on a cell phone ringtone. Thanks to you all.

I am very P***ed off about this lead!

Firstly: Why don't they define what sort of characters they want?

I know why!

It's because they couldn't be bothered using their own creativity! They want the voice talent to do their job for them.

Secondly: Are we now to be paid on commission?

Thankfully, only 25 talents have answered this lead so far.

I am one of them, and here is my response:

Quote:
Hi, Could you please do me the professional courtesy of defining which sort of character voices you are looking for? I have a range of voices that I can utilise, but I will not (and can not) put all of these into one demo. I feel that your listing is vague and ill-defined. If you aren't sure what sort of voices you want and are fishing for voice talents to give you some ideas, then please make us an offer to perform your creative process for you. Yours, Steve Royal http://steveroyal1.voice123.com

I guess my 'ranking' has just slipped to 16,938th in the list, but buggerit!
These clowns wanting something for essentially nothing really get up my nose!

The dummy has been well and truly spat!
Confused

Steve, there are now two types of postings I delete immediately, without a moment's hesitation: Those for voicemail messages (why on earth we should record a CUSTOM audition that says "Thank you for calling..." is beyond me) and custom ringtones.

Write on, Steve.
Excellent reply.

I'd add to the estimable Mr. Pollak's list any lead that makes no sense, and any lead from obvious leeches.
I'm currently deleting about 80%.

Voice On!

There was a time when I would even re-write some Seekers' horrid copy. Thus, giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Now, I doubt my own benefits for doing so and.... hit "delete".

What really toasts my walnuts is that they checked "GENERIC" demo rather than "CUSTOM" on the posting!

Gee, wonder why they got so many GENERIC DEMOS?!?!?!??!?!

Yeah, let me write your copy, voice it, oh, and while I'm at it... did you want me to run your business for you so you can enjoy your free time while the money comes rolling in?!!?!??!?!!?

Maybe this discussion should be in TALKBACK?
(How 'bout it V123 folks?)

Out of punctuation

That's why I sent them this goofy puky response. I choose to just make fun of these type of leads by sending them a tounge-in-cheek response. Life is too short.

That's the old "I'll get all this creative S*it for nothing ploy", Kato

Notice they "promise" to pay a "royalty?" on download - and a nominal fee, for a custom request!

And whom doth count thy downloads young innocent knave! - I don't think so....

DELETE!

LOL!
It's good to see that I'm not the only one who gets a little upset at these ectoparasitic, neuronally deficient cnidarians (guess who had a dictionary for brekky?) Smile

Well done Colin!
I reckon you've got the right idea....next time this sort of rubbish lands in my inbox, I'll have a bit of fun with it!

BTW, I received a TBNT from this klyent.....what a disappointment!
