Thinking of buying The Snowball from Blue

I'm trying to get into VO's. I have a Mac G5 and Garage Band, but need a microphone.
USB seems to be best option. Has anybody had experience with this mic?
Also need advice for a home studio on a budget. I made a quick demo with a cheap mic.
Can a professional VO artist listen to my VO and give me a critique and some pointers?Thanks.

Man, what a great voice you have! I'm not a professional - I'm still learning the ropes myself. I did want to pass along some information on USB mics. I've seen a Samson C01U and a Behringer (the model number escapes me, but it's at musiciansfriend.com). Keep in mind, I haven't had any personal experience with either of these, but from what I've read in online reviews, they seem to be pretty decent. Somebody please correct me if this is not the case - we don't want our new brother throwing down hard earned $$ on cheap stuff... Smile

You have a top notch computer with excellent software. What you have to remember is that your microphone is your MOST IMPORTANT piece of equipment. Don't buy anything until you've done research. At this point, I would NOT use a USB mic; there arent't many good ones. I assume you have a good digital audio interface. If you don't, you need to get one first. Then, shop around for a mic that fits your voice. If you can't go somewhere to test 'em, look up reviews on the EM and Mix sites. There are some great large-diaphragm condensers now that are very reasonably priced. And, Cascade Electronics has a ribbon mic for $159, which I think is a great mic. Good luck!

I'm gonna echo Stan - you've got a good computer set-up ... get a good external sound card and a good large diaphragm mic. Rode has some dandy mics at reasonable prices.

Thanks Stan and Todd. I've been reading some mixed reviews on the Snowball. I'm leaning towards the Rode Podcaster. Check out the link and let me know your opinion when you get a chance.

I think for the moment you should steer clear of USB mics. They haven't really been proven. Get yourself a good USB or (preferably) FireWire interface first, then go shopping for mics. That way you'll be able to input any kind of audio.

Stan - I assume the last post was geared to Frank --- I actually use a variety of mics through an M-Audio Delta 1010. I have mentioned the MXL V69 Tube Mic on another thread here - it's a very nice sounding entry-level tube mic for about $300.
