So I just had a client come in to try and voice some golf tips that they're running on our radio station.
THIS is a prime example of why it should be left to the pros.

Why the Sales people waste my time with these guys, I'll never know. kopf gegen wand

Hehehe! I was trying so hard not to yell at him! "I said SMILE! Not sound like your cat just died!"

He said he was too nervous, that he wasn't good at speaking in front of large groups of people. I said "What large groups? I'm the only one here. We're recording. This isn't live, no one else is listening."

He gave up after 1 script, said he was going to make some edits, and call back to re-arrange another time to voice.

I think I'm going to make sure I'm sick that day. Shocked

Wow.... couldn't even get through it? That's strong.

I spent many years taping all sorts of clients, lots of car dealers etc. I have all kind of war stories.

One car dealer guy shows up with nothing in hand. No script, nothing. Looks accros the table at me and says.... "what do you want me to say." I got him a pen and pad and said "do you mind if I get some work done while you figure it out?"

Ah.... the good old days. For the uninitiated.... a radio production director is a thankless job. They only notice you exist when something doesn't go right.

Another car dealer guy asks me to read the tag. I asked "where is the spot running?" "All over town." "I'll need to bill you $50." "I'm not paying it.... that's bulls**t."

I could go on and on.

It's actually better than a lot of the demos you hear browsing through V123... Does he happen to have $200? Cool

Quick tip -

I know you don't mean any harm here but what seems harmless could cost you big.

Be careful what you post. I once worked for a TV station that played some bloopers of a local car dealer's out takes. Everyone at the "fall preview" party had a hearty laugh at his expense.

The car dealer sued the station for a small fortune and, of course, pulled all of his advertising. From that night on, there were officially no more "out take" or blooper reels in the station.

Now, if you've got the guy's permission, no worries! Cool

I hate it when clients want to be in the spot. Most of the time, they sound like this guy.

Colin, I work in a market where if I cut a spot for our cluster, the sales person can dub that spot and deliver it market wide... without giving me a cent. I used to work at another radio company in this same market, and they did the same thing. Drives me nuts. But nobody will stand up for the talent. And I can't NOT do my prod, so... c'est la vie!
