| Is it okay to utilize an audition script to cut a spot to for the purpose of building your demo, even if you're not selected by the client, for the voice over? |

Absolutely, Hail.
That's why voiceover sites should be your rumpus room; not your income.
Play with the scripts, submit, get your TBYS'es.
The upside is that your unselected auds are yours to do with as you please.
In fact, it's one of the best ways to build your demo compendium.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with my esteemed and well-loved collegue this time. Personally, I think it's a bad practice. You want to make sure your demo contains only spots that are not on anyone else's demo, and you can be sure that bazillions of beginning VO people are glomming onto these V123 auditions for their home-grown demos.
A better practice, in my opinion, is to go to magazine ads and adapt them to create original spots that will only be voice by you. |

Well, I would caveat that you must never use a losing audition for a reputable production house that selected somebody else.
I mean, if VoiceBank or TheBigFishCompany or whoever did not select your aud, it's a mug's game to use your loser on a high-profile demo.
But we don't get those high rollers here. If you ace one of our rare well-written voice site texts, you just go ahead and use it, soldier.

They used you for nothing by way of a free audition so there is no reason why you shouldn't use the script. Most of the scripts I have seen so far have been awful and so for that reason I would discourage the use of them for a demo. _________________ British voice over www.philipbanks.co.uk

There are diamonds in the rough scripts though that I have used. With 1800 auditions under my belt at 123 and 500-600 at TOS, there's bound to be a few good ones, and there have been.
I would love to use REAL work if I had enough of it. The real work I've gotten is just too boring for a demo. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

I agree with Amy. Use magazine copy. |

| i would say use it, but the moment you get a spot that you voiced, replace the audition script on your demo. you want your demo to contain great spots that you voiced, not spots you auditioned for. |
