[color=red]Hey Voice Gods and Godesses,
Tomorrows the day when I finally open my first recording studio. Technically I am purchasing it from the owner. I have been a radio guy for 15 years. I bought this studio because I wanted to start my voice over/Radio Imaging/Movie Trailer business. I am aware although most of the big guys in the biz are just doing it from their own homes. I wanted a studio so I could rent it out to bands and such when my V.O biz is slow.
Any comments or suggestions such as pricing, advertising, hours open, would be so appreciated. Please hit me back.

Andy,
Congratulations on the studio! Having owned a small studio myself, I can offer my limited knowledge. We were in Memphis, TN at the time (mid 1990's) and the opportunities for recording studios were great. Keep in mind that your rates will depend on the quality (and variety) of your gear, the level of your experience, the overall quality of the finished product, and the demand in your market. We were running a 24 track digital system. Our basic rates were $65/hr or $400/day (8hrs). We had additional fees for special services like music composition and lyric writing or editing. Our hours were 8am to 10pm Mon-Fri, 8am-Midnight on Saturday, closed Sunday. For the most part we stuck to these hours, although there were occasional exceptions. Most of our advertising was word of mouth, but we did run a radio spot once in a while. Even though I'm only doing it part time now, it's still my favorite business. I hope some of this info helps. Best of luck to you!

Andy - You might try teaming up with your old radio station and a local bar to do a battle of the bands and offer a 1 day recording session as the prize. Sure you give some work away - but - hopefully - you'll pull in some of the "losers" as well. And, of course, it's good word of mouth.
My experience with small studios and local bands is - nights and weekends.
Also - don't forget the churches - there are ALWAYS christian bands looking for outlets.
Good Luck!

Actually, I'm currently just a standard member, so I'm not able to respond to V123 jobs. I have had a preferred membership on "the other" voice marketing website for about a year, and I have not had any job offers from there. Don't let that discourage you; there's still a lot about VO that I have to learn and then apply. Best of luck!

I have a voice acting group at my web page. We give all new comers and experienced VA's opportunities to do dramatic reads for internet consumption. If you have the time.. Check it out.
