I agree with everything I'm hearing..did speak to Steve and he is in the process of changing many things...but I am so disappointed that he doesn't have the where with all at this level. I hope a lot of what I discussed with him is changed by now! He is in such unfamiliar territory! I'm numb!

The UPS needs to say Commercials, the mt. is Narrations Baby's blocks Children's Audio Books. The book pic is just Audio Books, I will have him add the title to each pic. This is like pulling teeth!!@#$^&*^^%

Grant: I think by "progressive downloads" he means "on demand", ie it only loads when you click.

No all... progressive or streaming downloads means that playback of the audio can start before the whole audio is downloaded - so you get to hear the demo within a few seconds, and while listening, the rest loads in the background.

I'm not sure of the appropriate conduct on the forum as far as offering services like web design. I know someone named Grant that might/maybe be willing to discuss off-forum.

Very Happy

Nonie-- I think step one is to download everything onto your local computer and ask your imposter web designer to cease his efforts. Cut your losses, girlfriend. You could do better by yourself with Dreamweaver and a copy of Web Design for Dummies.

You can also troll around the web for VO websites that you like (visually and functionally), then ask your colleagues who designed their sites. Then make some calls, hire someone new, and feel a lot better about the whole process!

Amy, you're absolutely right and I am in the process now. I found a one page site for a VO and wanted that simple one page site done for me and it just got out of hand...lost lots of time. And being the good schnook that I am I paid him half early on to be nice....not a lot. He was only charging me $150. for one page......the site that is good enough for me right now is: www.dansvoice.com. How did this simple project get so outta wack!
Thanks for the moral support and suggestions. I just can't handle doing the site myself for now. I need one immediately.

Nothing against Dan's Voice site, but it's still Flash.
Loads very nicely, though...

Don't like the intro at all, also get a blank page for several seconds... not good.

You'll get more for your cash if you don't use flash!
For a site that will sell, stick with HTML!

Unrequested Opinion Ahoy!

Nonie...you're just too darn nice. Remember, you're paying for a SERVICE and you must be satisfied! If your new car pinged after servicing, or your new shoes squeaked, or your new freezer made weird noises, you would demand satisfaction, no? Just think of your website as a product you have purchased, and make sure you are satisfied with that product from the beginning.
I'm so sorry this has become so stressful for you! Crying or Very sad

If your hosting company is a different person/entity than the designer, the most accurate way to handle it is to call/contact the web host company and have them change the FTP password to something of your choosing- Immediately.

THEN, the "current" designer will not have access and cannot change any files - there is less need to download all files.

IF by chance you've selected hosting with the same person that is doing the creation/maintenance, the other suggestions above are most accurate; get control of your files, Find a new hosting company, Move the files...THEN can the designer/host.

I like that Joe, ok probably no flash, and no I like my intro much better although I am making it shorter.....Dan's is not good, says nothing.

I emailed Steve to take it offline ASAP.

That blank page at the beginning is of course not suppose to be there, it suppose to upload in seconds. It's the blank page when one clicks on a demo that I don't love but someone wrote that the entire page does not have to be blank, that just a small window can open showing the start/stop bar.

Thank you Debbie!.... Crying or Very sad

My web host and creator are different companies, I am not afraid of Steve hurting me at all. He's a very nice person, although a stranger to me and not sure, but he might actually give me back my $75....BUT I just want it fixed. The files I have on my desktop and gave to him so I have everything. The intro I gave him on a cd that he will give back to me. He's give me whatever cds I gave to him. He's very above board ethically I feel. I owned the site name for the past year, paid for 3 years so that has nothing to do with him. He insisted that I not paying him anything until I was satisfied, but of course I did pay him something. so I trust him. I will be professional from now on. You have to be! Too many variables in life to act small town/50 years ago.

I feel your pain. It's difficult to find the right person who truly understands what you want your site to be. I wanted a very clean web 2.o type of site that is kind of an electronic business card but with demos...
I found a young guy in my neck of the woods and he set me up with a site that allows me to quite easily add demos to and update any text using php.
http://www.ubervoice.com

I'm pretty happy with it and like the flash players but still have a few bugs to work out. I did find that some younger people are easier to deal with electronically as is the case with my designer, he's very unassuming in person and quite shy but via e-mail we get things done.

It was about 350.00 for mine. PM me if you'd like the url for my designer, though he's listed on my site.

Mark

Hey Mark,
Thanks for the support and info...just checked out your cool clean simple site...yes give me info, forgot to write it down.....I spoke with my guy this evening and he's going to do the best he can to get it up quickly...but says he will need to remove my Intro!! I really like my intro and think it's very important for a VO to say something when you open their site. I'll have someone else do it next week. I just told him to do whatever he needs to tonight to make it work! I told him I'll be up waiting up to see it.

Why me? Ya know, I'm a really nice person, but I think I have "bad" karma in some way....in other ways I'm having a hell of a life, but boy oh boy nothing comes easy for me.
Thank you again Mark. A day from hell....well....it's still a hell of a good life, Thank you G d.
