Hi guys,
New to the VO scene (but not too new).
I live in Australia but will be moving to the uk at the end of the year for 2 years so if there is anyone on this forum (which I know a few... Phillip Banks - hi there!) that can point me in the right direction as far as training, recommended coaches, acting classes and anything else that can help, I would massivly appreciate it.

I don't have a demo as yet because I don't want to burn my chances of future work when I'm not quite up to pro standard. But I do have a sample of my best commercial.
As far as my recording facilities? well I am only on practicing level so my mic is... well... crap and I use wav lab to edit (everyone starts somewhere!) but there are advantages of dating an audio director (who is ever so fussy about sound) that in the future I think I'm pretty safe
Wink

So... a big hello to everyone!

Until the next exicting episode...

P.S - my goal for next year is going to Voice 2008

Hi Beth from a fellow Austa-raylian!

Sorry to hear that you'll be leaving us in Oz, but good to hear that you are embarking on your journey to the UK. I hope it brings you great fortunes and opportunities. I too am aiming for Voice 2008, I'm waiting to find out where it will be so I can start planning the trip ahead of time.
Best of luck to you and look forward to hearing you around the boards.

See ya!

Hey Matt,
Good to see another ozzie on the forum Very Happy

Yeah... I'm heading half way around the world to the UK for the last "hurrah" before marriage and kids... and I'm kinda fortunate by having a british passport as well.

As I mentioned, I want to keep practicing/trainging/somehow eventually working in the UK with voice over work. There are a few places on the net in the UK that have courses and training but its always good to have a personal recommendation.
Have you ever done teleconfrence training call? I wouldn't mind looking into that as well if I have trouble finding a good coach.

Hear from you soon!

Cool, Beth! I'm sure you'll have a great time. I'm heading over to the US in less than two months for my first overseas experience (by myself).

I haven't personally done any teleconferencing as of yet. I also haven't tried any of the online seminars. Mainly because I haven't seen anything on here (V123) that caught my eye particularly, and the days they were held were not appropriate for me to get up at 2am or whatever it is Razz

You're in Sydney, right? Have you tried the AFTRS voice over workshops yet? I went to the one held in Brisbane and it was pretty good. Worth a shot if you're serious about furthering your skills. They're pretty much the only training courses (I know of) in Australia...

Hey Matt,
Yeah, I used to work about a block away from AFTERS and I did a 3 week voice over course there in 2003.
It was really good and I often still use my notes - especially the practice scripts. I think they have changed the course outline and have made them into a weekend.

I would love to find a drama course/theatre course to really throw myself into some improvisation/thinking on the spot stuff. But its hard to find one around my area. I've read the "bible" called The Art of Voice Acting from James Alburger and I've only just bought another book of the internet... and of course I try and practice, practice, practice.

How about yourself?
