how to much to charge for scripting/storyboarding?

Hi,

I have a potential client that wants to do a screen capture/audio presentation for their company's computer software, and would like assistance in creating the scripts/storyboards for the presentation. Does anyone have any idea how much to charge for the marketing/authoring end of the business?

Depends on the length of the presentation. If you're doing all that work my personal feeling is that they should be paying you $500 minimum, no questions asked.

However, I also understand that if they are a company that has not worked with voice talent in the past they will suffer acute sticker shock and run away.

In the end it depends on how badly you want the gig and do you think future work will grow out of it. I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like you are producing EVERYTHING for this project of theirs.

Let's put it this way: If they farmed it out to a marketing consultant they'd be paying $1000 just to say "hi". (Yes, I'm Dr. Cynical.)

Hi Stan. Here's what I do in that situation. I figure up what an hour of my time is worth and multiply that by how many hours I expect it will take to do the project. After that - I add or subtract til I get a number that I think the market will bear.

Not sure it's the RIGHT way - but that's how I do it.

Todd, that's exactly what I was thinking - I just didn't know if $10/hr or $200/hr was closer to what the market would bear.

I did a screen capture and script writing job for a web tutorial earlier this year. It took me about 3 hours total to do it all. I charged them about $500. But it was a company that had money... best of luck.
