Tom... It's hard for me to provide critiques, I have trouble being at all negative, but here goes. One thing I would say off the bat is that both those auds sound THE SAME. Even though they are completely different scripts with different motivation.

at least you think they sound sane.....lmao....kidding...I know you meant the same....lmao Which is fine since the only time they will be heard together side by side is right here from my post.....emotions can be the same for different things....when I talk...alot of the things I say are said the same way but are completely different subjects. And I know what you mean about having a hard time being negative....It's not fun to be negative, but we all expect it here I think....so don't ever worry about hurting my feelings or anything.....I wouldn't post if I couldn't take it.

It's only cuz we love you, Tom. It's the old "If you don't have something nice to say..." syndrome.
Colin's right.
For goodness sake, Tom, we know you can read. And that's what you were doing.
When I hear you lately, it's almost as if your Weather Channel disappointment is creeping into your work. It's depressing, like.
These two spots are tailor-made for your voice. And you did bring that.
But - as you know - there's so much more to it.
On Seatbelts, for example, the opening was crying for some drama to capture the listener. And you inflected only on the first syllable in "facial"; possibly the least important note in the phrase.
And then, up to "...the difference"...you read a litany of woes as lifelessly as you would a grocery list.
Your ending ("a message from...") was the best part of the piece. And that's just a monotone disclaimer-type sentence.
The rest needed some juice, Tom. We've agreed on it before: those big, rumbly voices have to actually take it over the top to get to a median stage.
You only inflected - and mildly - on "bad scares" and "zero tolerance". The rest was flatter than road kill.

Similarly, on Marine, you paused for effect but brought no sentiment to bear. Listen again to your list:
"...(something)...child...youth...teen...sports programs..."
Every single note is the same.
That's Sominex; not Tom Greenlee.
Come back, soldier.

Grumble On!

Marc, buddy... YIKES! "Simple WALK-up call?!" Even if they love your demo, that's gonna catch their ears. Gotta be sure to get rid of bloopers like that before sending it in.

Tom - Nice mellow read, but to me it sounded too "read". I just now read Colin's and Robert's comments on your reads and must agree. You're going to have to go back to the basics and start bringing your scripts to life.

I really wasn't going to post mine, because this late in this thread it probably won't get listened to anyway, plus we've had so many, but I'm a glutton for punishment.

On the Marine one, I first went for 'tough' but it's just not me. Then I thought, hey, they're talking about people, and kids and stuff. Why not just do it the way I'm most comfortable?

hahahahaha.....too funny Robert. I hear ya. What you've been hearing of late is my trying to work on conversationality without a sing songy effect. I know it comes across as kind of flat....it's like there's no in between...either flat or sing songy! lmao....I'll get it. Have no fear.

You will all be glad to know those damn annoying alien beeping sons of bitches are dead. I think I'll go for some annoying click track next. Shocked

I notice that some of you put nothing in the background and change no words in the script. Not that I am so arrogant to think that everyone of my demos is going to be stolen, but is there no concern or do you just not give the seeker the ability to download? hilfe

Y'know, Marc, if the voice seeker is desperate enough to use a 64k sampled piece of stolen audio on their project, then so be it. But typically we don't record the entire script, or we change a subtle word here or there, or what I'll do a lot is merely fade out the last sentence or two.

Overwhelmingly we've heard from voice clients that there's not much that will kill your demo quicker than watermarking it.

And - since I seem to be on a grumbly roll - I found Adam's Owning Home aud to be simultaneously a tad breathless and flat: almost like a London tube announcement. Listen, for example, to the "Shouldn't you be one of them?" phrase. Isn't that a Let's All Nod in Agreement With Me appeal? It came out more like a Let's All Take a Snooze With Me suggestion.
And, copy-wise, who the heck was the seller? I never heard a name.

Thanks Robert. Well the script itself wasn't very inspiring I thought, and I do think it's not the best piece of audio I have ever recorded. The script itself didn't have a company name on it either. Yeah perhaps a bit breathless, i'll work on that.
