The strangest thing happened to me this weekend. A friend of mine from my day job does some web site work for a few sites. He told me about a site called blogtalkradio.com and had me go there. I listened to a few episodes of a particular show he was involved with and told him so earlier in the week. Much to my surprise he made me that web site's "Fan of The Month". He wanted a short bio, and I sent him one, then decided to make a short mp3 of the bio just for the heck of it. Then, just for kicks I made up a few intro's and breaks for the show. More to give them a sample and get my voice out there...not tinking anything would come of it.

The host of the show emailed me this morning and they are going to use the bio and they LOVED the intro's and tags I did for them and want to meet with me and have me sign a "creative process" contract for what I did and future work for them.

It may be small beans now, but as I understand it, the host of the show has already gotten the attention of Howard Stern, so it may turn into something big.

My question is, since this is my first time out of the gate in years, what do I do next? Do I need an agent? What do I need to look for and/or look out for in a typical "creative process" contract? Help! I don't want to blow my first deal by being naive to the process.

Thanks,

Dean

DEAN:
Congrats at digging up some gigs, and being your own marketing agent!
Can't help you much on agents and contracts. My history with contracts has been pretty much standard ones with radio stations and a few "artistic performance" contracts. Nothing complicated. Agent? Sure check em out, doesn't mean you have to sign with them.. Remember, you're interviewing THEM as much as THEY are interviewing YOU! I'm sure you'll get more advice here, but I think you have time to shop around before getting an agent right away. I wonder what everyone else thinks?? Question
