Hi Deby,

Plenty of samples at this site:
http://accent.gmu.edu/

I use it regularly. They have native speakers reading a stock paragraph that contains the most common linguistic elements.

Enjoy!,

... actually, the phrase that everyone reads is carefully constructed to cover a wide range of liguistic elements in a short amount of time.

But, since you asked, here's another resource for you:
http://www.ku.edu/~idea/index.htm

(and a direct link to the French section):
http://web.ku.edu/idea/europe/france/france.htm

Or, for the hard-core liguist, here's the International Phonetics Association (IPA) site:
http://www.arts.gla.ac.uk/IPA/ipa.html
... plus charts:
http://www.paulmeier.com/ipa/charts.html
... and an audio graph:
http://web.uvic.ca/ling/resources/ipa/charts/IPAlab/IPAlab.htm
(once you learn the IPA, you can voice any accent... or so the theory goes!)

Accentuate the Positive,

Joe, these are all great links, the Speech Accent Archive in particular. It covers a lot of accents and includes phonetic transcripts. Very cool. Great primers.

When clients ask for impersonations or soundalikes, YouTube is also a pretty good resource. I didn't even know who Rachel Specter was until I read a lead this morning and found her on YouTube. I was able to listen to her voice to get an idea of what the client wanted (not so much the age but the rough sultriness).
