Okay, back from work.... I can finally respond here....

Thom, I agree; your demo just freakin' rocked! LOVED your choice of music for it. The ONLY thing I was hoping for was just a BIT more variation in your delivery. But man, it was excellent.

RJ... I liked it! Nicely done, good FX on the v/o, good subtle Twilight-Zone-ish music. Well done!

Working hard and voicing do not mix, Tom.

Only lazy lay-abouts go into voiceover.
Industrious people make money, not auditions.

You started off bull-strong, man. It was rocking.
Then you fizzled out on the "planet's population was destroyed.." right to the end.

And that's where the oomph should have come.

See what fatigue does to you?.

Work or voice. Never both.

Laze On!

I'd like to blame it on fatigue man....but I can't blame fatigue...I just suck.....lmao...I DO have to go to bed here real soon....flingin a paint brush and a roller around for 7 hours does make you tired.

Nah...you don't suck, Tom....
Only things are changing so fast.
Time was when Amy or Scott would post here and we'd sit and admire their vapour trails.
(When Sid stayed away, that is.)
Then the Thoms and the Ciras and the RTR's and the Debbies and others came along and raised the bar. Again and again and again.

Heck, man, we shang-haied a $5.99 guy and even he rocks!

I'm no longer complaining about all the wannabes that V123 lets into the yard. I'm starting to wish they'd stop letting real talents in....

It's the story of the whole business. The competition is powerful. And everywhere.

Hang in. It's not going to get any easier.

Thanks for the comments all. I was going for a Morgan Freeman (War of the Worlds intro ) type read very subtle inflection changes, almost dry.
I've kinda' done this (subject) read before - in a War-of-the-Worlds piece. more Wellian

If you haven't seen it, it's at:

http://thomwilkins.com/v-waroftheworlds.html

Colin - In 2009 - I've heard your delivery much stronger, and the music was too light - sounded a bit like Banachek was hiding behind a door - waiting for the killer to open the safe... (You know you sound like Joseph Conrad?- complement!) Colin - liked your Weather read much. On the second In 2009 read - Let us all pray to Saint Canini Bollocks of the Blessed Proximity Effect!

Scott - with the In 2009 DLF - I think production would have helped sell the read , BTW I really heard the "F" {in Friendship} - catching in your braces? Also - I wouldn't say DLF unless you can do a spot-on impression, I didn't say "Morgan Freeman" - cause I was not trying to be Freeman - just use a bit of his delivery style. I don't want the client comparing - and thinking , that's not Freeman. . . cuz it's not! - They are free to draw their own conclusion based on their impression of the read, not biased by their memory of the Star.

Robert - Good resonant delivery - but too much echo - sounds like you are in a well. On the second one - I'm feeling the theater more, generally - back off on the echo and break out the popcorn !

The only other piece I did this weekend - The HOT HOT HOT weather report. (You know that Rumba- HOT HOT HOT - Is what I think should be in the background... Very Happy it's so over the top!

It was late. We were tired. I'm a cheap date.

We discovered an Austrailian wine - a precocious, but mellow little merlot sold under the name of: Little Penguin - an animal that had to show up as a result of evolution as God must have better things to do than leave a bird that can't fly out in the cold with nothing more than a tux.

And so it is in this state of mind that I encourage Robert to Stay Dry! Dammit.

And to stop scaring the kiddies!

Now, it's time to worry another cork out.... and open another bottle of The Bird. schockiert

Thom, et al... thanks for your comments and critiques, all of which I feel are valid. Thom... note that I said a Don LaFontaine TYPE of delivery. I didn't say I was trying to impersonate DLF. And I noticed the Fs too on that piece. I do think I'm still struggling with having all this metal in my mouf.

Fine, Vic, fine.... rub our noses in it! Wink
I'll go check in a minute, but I KNOW what to expect.

Okay, this just came in, and interestingly, I just did a Schwarzenegger for a job from ANOTHER site. Feel free to rip it to shreds. I'm no Rajiv Hassan when it comes to impersonations.

OK Scott-
I am not sure if you did the other job before your braces, but I think that is the worst demo I have heard from you. You will probably get the job, but I could hardly listen to the whole thing. (Talking about Scharwzie)

Hope I haven't ruined my nice guy reputation.

Loved all the WoW reads. Thom and Colin are tough to beat on anything like that because they have the double whammy on you with killer read and production. On this one, I think Thom wins based on the production. Although, you slowed almost to a stop at the end.

Here is mine....late and dry....

I'll tee it up nice and high for you Scott. I think you can wack it with a massie!

So, what's the story on voice-impersonations, anyway?

Some years ago, I had a voice-impersonator who could do such a marvelous job on dozens of well-known Personalities that we got letters from irate solicitors who were about to bring the wrath of God and the "full extent of the Law" down upon our sorry butts for using someone else's voice without permission or negotiated fees paid.

I haven't written a "Personality-based" piece of script since.

RTR-
I think there are just so many new people in this biz. they really have no idea what might be legal. It doesn't even occur to them.
