Hello! Do you need a voice coach but don't want to buy a huge block of sessions at one time? Are the hourly rates just way too high? Would you like to learn more about your voice and how you are using it?
Please search the V123 system for my posts on VO Idol and a few other places. There you'll read my "description" of someone's voice, and what they are doing to it - and what they could be doing with it. I'd give some examples but there are so many voices with so many different styles and issues - checking the messages would be easier for those of you who are interested. [And if I've talked to you about your voice, please feel free to jump in here and give your opinion, thank you very much.]
Also, Google synesthesia if you'd like, that's what I have that allows me to do this. Simply put, it is when certain senses are joined. Mine are sound and vision. So when I hear a voice, I see something as if I am reading what you wrote. It's not magic, or supernatural or anything like that. It's just there.
If you'd like me to tell you what your voice looks like in a "trial" session, it's free. You'll send me an MP3 of your natural voice talking to me about you. Then we'll talk on the phone (my dime) and I will tell you things about your voice you may not be aware of. If you want to learn more about how to use your voice, it's quick and easy, most people don't need more than 2 to 5 sessions. Some don't need me at all.
This is not voice acting. I don't teach voice acting. What I do is give you the tools to get better at using what you have, and not falling into bad habits, like making your throat tight, or clenching your teeth, that sort of thing. It will help you act and help you clearly and cleanly deliver your lines when you act. I've "seen" things in the "successful" voice talents who could be even better if I could just tell them what I'm seeing.
My rate is $60 an hour and I will consider trading out for gear or services.
So, send up a PM, and we'll go from there. It's been nice chatting with you!

I'll vouch for Phyllis K. Day.
She has an uncanny ability to hear mis-articulation that you're so used to that you long since stopped noticing it.
I've not had the courage yet to go to her for correction...but she sure has made me aware of lazy "T"'s and borderline-lispy "th"'s.
In fact, she's pretty well ruined my career.
But now she's darned well gonna correct it....
(And for the unsolicited endorsement, Phyllis, I could use a mic processor or a couple of cases of Moosehead....)
Voith On!

Maybe a few less weekly cases of Moosehead, Robert, and you won't have those lazy T's and lisping th's anymore. Eh?

That's not going to work, we have the same gear!

The Mooseheads didn't help?!

Too funny, Moosehead is one of my favorite beers!
Anyways, like Robert, I'll vouch for Phyllis too! I just finished up my first full phone session with her yesterday and I'm very pleased. First off, she's wonderfully pleasant to talk to. Second, I was surprised at what she was able to discern from my demos. There were subtlties I never knew existed and already she's helped me identify some problem areas. I know that it will take some time for me to correct any of those, but I'm looking foward to working with her more soon!
Her rates are very reasonable and that certainly helps me out with our family budget.
Another interesting aspect to this is the forum. We've been able to discuss other voices on the forum as a frame of reference...that has been key for me to understand where I fit in the grand scheme of things too.
A Moosehead Cheers!

First of all, Robert and Cameron, what's the deal with the Moosehead beer? Why is it better?
Secondly, I never thought about it but you're right, having other voices here did make it easy to reference what I was trying to explain to you about yours.
And I am glad you didn't get washed away in the floods in your neck of the woods! I can't believe we were talking on the phone, having a session while houses nearby were practically wiped away.

You're seeking voices to coach...
Speaking of which, I don't really have anything to sell, but I would certainly be interested in voice coaching in the next month or two.

Hi Chris;
The script on your voicemail (from you V123 page) was so funny! And your tongue-in-cheek delivery as well! What I would like to hear would be an MP3 of your natural speaking voice too, and perhaps we can have a "mini" session for you to decide if you'd like to have a few full-blown coaching sessions. You don't have to trade gear, I don't mind taking...uhh, how shall I say it...payment in...currency.

What's a pinkletink?
Also, I'm back from a trip to NJ and I saw the aftermath of their floods, too. Unbelievable!
Well, another good night's rest and I'll be rarin' to go! Check your closets for unwanted equipment and check your throat too! Does it need a little tune-up?
Remember, I'm not an acting coach, but an "instrument" coach. Thanks to Alan, Debbie and Cameron for their kind comments. Give it a try, contact me, the first mini-session is free.

pinkletink, aka "spring peeper": A small brownish tree frog (Hyla crucifer) of eastern North America, having a characteristic shrill, high-pitched call..
idunno about the 'shrill' part but, they're the little frogies that go 'peep peep peep' in the marshes and swampy places of New Hampshire...
Be 'peep peep' Well
