| I'm just curious as to what remarks people use on their replies to leads. I just say that I can provide professional recordings on mp3, wav and aiff and give them my website if they want to hear more demos. Does anyone have any advice as to what really should be said in that box? |

Hi Philippa,
I like to include the following:
Please visit www.JoeActor.com for additional VO demos and information.
Delivery of WAV/AIFF/Mp3 via FTP/E-Mail in an average of 24-48 hours.
Pricing negotiable based on full project specifications.
Plus a bit at the top, and a "Thank You" at the bottom with my e-mail...
Chiming in,
Joe |

Probably something along the lines of "Please hire Simon Hill for this job"
I've been actually wondering the same thing too. Mr. Pollak? Jadah? Larkin? Anyone want to share? |

Philippa,
I have mine set up as a sort of mini resume. With a couple of major clients listed. I try also to include a well know client that may be similar in theme to what your client is looking for. I also include turnaround time and quote. It's about 8 to 10 lines in all. Hope this helps! _________________ All the best!

Here's mine:
To whom it may concern:
Please note that Scott Pollak has personal hygiene issues and Todd Ellis encourages children to build solar death rays. Simon Hill ingests anything from paint thinner to turbine fuel, and Colin Campbell is really grouchy and difficult to work with. There are rumours about Joe J's schizophrenia and....
I go on a little longer and then close it out with nice things about me.
It works.

OK, OK...seriously.
My standard central theme is:
Mature, powerful tone reflected in dry read of partial text submitted to your posting. Variations, filmography, more clips at robertjadah.com. Same-day turnarounds and 24/7 sessions ensured by pro voicing from home studio. Effects and full production available. Rate quote inclusive of buyout for final to your approval, format, and deadline. Thank you for listening.
I add a sentence here and there to suit their project and change the opening words to fit their request.
I figure it' fairly short, informative, and positive.
It's not copyrighted, so help yourselves.
(I've got plenty more words where they came from.)

Hey Simon,
I'm flattered you asked!
Mine is like Joe's. When that doesn't work, I use "long walks on the beach, pina coladas, scary movies, splashing in the rain, puppies.....". Seriously, I just keep it very simple, and thank them for their consideration. But I think I might start using "Please hire Simon Hill for this job". What do you think?

|

Hi
Some "Clients" ask for a demo. Some of them give me a script in another language but they want it in Italian.... uhm...
As you know, we cannot answer to some leads without a demo.
So I made a 1 minute demo with "silence".
I don't know their name, if they are serious Companies or people... i really don't know anything about them.
Why should i send a demo to unknown people?
50% of Clients told me that that demo was without voice, but 50% didn't give me any reply.
So i learned that 50% of "Clients" are not serious. Is that right?
And 80% of my answers have been left without a contact or a "thank you".
But a few Clients are serious, ready to contact a professional VO and ready to have an agreement.
This is my experience
Thanks.

You want an audition for a job that pays HOW MUCH? Forgive me if the decimal point was put in the incorrect place. _________________ British voice over www.philipbanks.co.uk

You mean I'm the only one who offers sexual favors for the gig? I just do that and send them that audio clip that's been circulating of the two sloths having at it.
If the client is local, offering to babysit and/or wax their cars also works.
Seriously, from being on both ends of this game. Being vague about money doesn't work. Also keeping it short and to the point usually works very well.
On custom auditions, any short personal references to the copy seems to work well. For example, if the copy is medical in nature, then a statement that you used to work in a pharmacy and are familiar with medical terms might be helpful.
Some commercial copy references a particular part, so saying something like "Having 2 teenage daughters gives me an honest and real position to base my read on." might work as well.
When the request is just for demos, indicate that you would be happy to perform a custom audition and/or that you can provide other samples of your work.
Unfortunately, V123 still allows clients to remain anonymous and therefore that prevents being able to do any research on the client. It would certainly be nice to know what geographical area the client was from at the very least. I had a situation recently where I had to turn down a gig becuase I was actually already doing spots in their town for a competitor. |
