My rule is I don't sign any NDA that doesn't include two exceptions that allow me to make disclosures: (1) to pursue collections of unpaid fees if that becomes necessary; and (2) to comply with a court order or subpoena requiring me to make disclosures in any legal action. Again, that's my rule, not legal advice. Definitely, get a lawyer to look at any legal document you're not sure about. You can also ask for clarification, in writing and preferably as a modification or addendum to the contract. I wouldn't sign anything that includes a verbal explanation that "makes it okay to sign." I'm totally not comfortable with that.

I do think you won't want to flip it off just because it's an NDA and you may feel it doesn't have the strength of a contract. Anything you sign that requires you to do something is pretty much a contract.

Thanks to Nikki and Everyone who responded to this. As I mentioned earlier, the only contracts I have signed have all been through one of my agents, so this is the first one on my own. Thanks again!

Could someone fax me a standard NDA. You know a generic one where you just have to put in a few things like names and titles of books. I really don't want to have to write one myself. Send me a private messege or call me at (203) 735-1235 if you can help.

Cira:

Congratulations on the gig. Most NDA's are straightforward. As long as the NDA would not present a legal issue later on or causes issues with being paid for services rendered, you should be ok

Good Luck!

As you've probably already figured out, the NDA should not be an issue, as long as there are no competing covenants in the document you can't abide by.

This should not be confused with or combined with a Talent fee contract.

Good Luck!
