Before I disclose any more information, I am wondering if this rings a bell with anyone here, and if you have also been sent a similar contract:

I have been selected as one of several talent to do a series of audio books which the client (hopes) will be an ongoing project over the next several years. It is a pay-per-word agreement, with several pages of script, 250 wpp. I haven't signed anything yet, because, frankly, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed in re: legalese, and I'm not desperate enough to sell my soul just yet. I have signed many contracts during my career, but this would be my first one through a V/O site.

Your input would be most appreciated.

What is your question, exactly? Whether or not to sign? Or just if anyone else has signed one?

Actually, I can get someone to look it over for me, but I really would like to know who else has received this. I'm trying to be as specific as possible without exposing the client. And I feel uncomfortable asking the client who else has been chosen. But if push comes to shove, I may have to just ask.

Well I hope it's not the 4 cents per word one. That's a tough one to swallow!

A non-disclosure agreement is not a contract , it is an agreement that you will not disclose ....read the section and see if what is expected of you is reasonable and practical. As a general rule of thumb it is good business not to discuss jobs or clients until you're given the ok so to do.

If the non disclosure agreement forms part of the contract (there is money mentioned) then there should be a sum of money paid to you for your "silence".

Rather than ask who else, ask the company why sign? What are they worried may happen?

Non disclosure agreements as a rule are for big fee paying jobs.

Thanks, Philip. That was helpful. Yes, it's for a big job, my concern is that I have never signed anything without having interfaced directly with the client. I'm just being a Nervous Nellie.

i signed one for a rather nice job I got here on 123 and had no problem whatsoever. I don't think it mentioned money in it. Just "don't talk about what you did for us." So, I can't talk about what I did for them. Sorry on that. I think if they are professional enough to request a non-disclosure, you are probably fine. My job paid within a few days.

Congrats!

And I am routinely asked to sign NDA's, so I don't know what's worrying you.

Wow.... I am really starting a cottage business here. Cira, I'd LOVE to "tawk" demos. I try to do one a night so I can also get some auditions in. I have one for tonight and one tomorrow night but I can get to yours over the weekend. I'd be honored to work with your fine voice. PM me baby.

Colin, thanks! I will pm you about the demo as soon as have some free time. I've been busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. (Oops! Am I allowed to say that here?)

Amy, thanks! I appreciate that. I just needed a vote of confidence. I was only concerned because it's my first contract that I didn't get through an agent, but it's all good! 2 daumen hoch

Yes, Cira, you can say one-legged.
