can someone make a career out of this?

Okay I have to play dumb. How do you obtain the numbers for the Production Houses, and ad agencies? I am almost there. I am amazed by how many want a demo CD. Not that its hard to burn a CD.

Sounds like you're the kind of talent I want contacting me! One who respects teh client's time!!! I try to do that too.

BTW... I was having trouble with my ftp site at voice-overs.com for a while (it's a private page with log in for clients) and I found a great resource.

Yousendit.com allows anyone to upload a file up to 100MB, and they send an email with the link to the client. I signed up for membership so I can actually send files up to 2GB! And they stay up for 14 days. I think the free ones stay up for 7 days.

Hi all,

I just had to chime into this thread. I have been doing voice work full time for the past three years from my home studio in NH....yea, New Hampshire! But like it's been mentioned before on this thread, it doesn't happen over night. I was trained in theater- lots of voice work, and I worked in radio for two decades (had lots of bad habits to break)....and I have sought out great VO teachers....the best advice to newbies is to get training and read all you can about the job...and TREAT IT LIKE A JOB. If you want to be taken seriously you have to treat it seriously.

Oh...something else I forgot to mention. Search your local area yellow pages for advertising agencies that handle radio and TV advertising. This is where I got my first layer of regular clients. The agencies help their clients select talent and if they like you, they will use you in the future...that's were professionalism and follow through pay off...those repeat customers! And in a perfect world, people change companies and keep your contact information, then you have TWO agencies who will work with you...etc etc etc.
