Just wondering how people are keeping their audition files organized--on some I have the name of the company/product, but a lot of the V123 leads you don't have any information, so I'm puzzled as to how to name them so I remember what they are, on the off chance I need to refer back to them.

Also, how long do people keep these files? Do you delete them as soon as you're reasonably certain nothing came of them? What's a safe time?

Thanks for any info!

Jeanine,

Here is how I do it; I create a folder with the Lead ID, I create a text file with the Lead ID and I generally create all of my audio files with the lead id appended with _Raw, _Edi or _Final creating them as Wav files then creating an mp3 version of the _Final version.

I hope this helps.

I have a 'voice123' folder in the root of my computer, as well as other folders for other v/o sites I belong to. Within the voice123 folder I create sub-folders for each week's auditions, such as 'week of 03_11_07'. Then each audition I label with the title and my name, such as Bobs_BBQ_scott_pollak. I don't bother keeping individual elements of each audition file, only the final .mp3 mixdown. And after about a month or two I delete old files.

My folders are named like this:

On my desktop: VO--> V123-->03/15/07

The files are named with a keyword, my name, and the audition number:
westin_AmySnively_LTK9104545252X.mp3

In my VO folder, I have a folder for each of the usual audition sites, as well as for each of my regular clients.

I'm with George.

If I get a "Thanks, but" letter, I move the audition to a "Passed" folder.
Periodically, I'll archive older auditions to keep things tidy.

When I land a job, I get the original audition and create a client specific folder for them.

And that the truth!,
Joe

Hire_JS_Gilbert_or_you_will_regret_it.mp3

It seems to work

Say! You guys are really organized! I never thought of using the lead number, but it's a great idea--I shall adopt it immediately.

On the other hand, I may name all mine "Hire_JS_Gilbert_or_you_will_regret_it.mp3," because it sounds catchy, and I hear it works well. Smile

I use key words, or the first few words of the script. I Always label it with the date I recorded it, and the File number from Voice 123. Sometimes I use the name of the company if its available. Good Luck!
