If anyone here can point me in the right direction to find online content regarding the finer points of editing VO, I'd appreciate that very much.
I know how to use my software, what I'm looking for is editing and production techniques specific to vocal work.

Hi Scott-

This is a great question--hopefully someone with some better technical experience than I will chime in here. I googled the topic and only came up with sites for professional studios who edit.

Through trial and error, I've come up with a cadence and timing to my edits so that they sound as close to real spots as I can approximate. However, it took me a year or so to get to that point where I was confident that what I was putting together would land correctly on the ears of the producer or creative listening on the other end.

I try to be careful about putting too much space between lines or on the other end of the spectrum, cutting out too many breaths so it sounds unnatural. But...then there are those 60 second radio spots where you speak non-stop for 55 seconds...so there are considerations for every type of copy. It's all a work in progress over here!

Anyone out there an editing expert? We could all benefit from an editing tip or two...

Cheers-
Anna

Scott...Anna.....check out the "Geek Place" forum. Coliin Campbell posted a series of excellent mp3 files explaining many of the voice processing procedures. About half way down the list of topics in Geek Place, click on "VO Tips...Season Two" thread and read the entire thread....scattered throughout that thread are files and links to files that Colin created explaining just what you are looking for.

Scott,

I'm in the same boat, and was thinking about taking some classes.

Maybe the solution is to get an editing job?

Either way, I'd like to hear from the pros on this one as well.
